I was introduced to the Best Show earlier this year via the Scharpling & Wurster box set, and after a few months of listening religiously I started compiling a few of the common tropes that tend to pop up over and over again whenever Tom gets on the phone with a resident of Newbridge. With nothing better to do with this information, I decided to make a drinking game out of my notes. I thought I'd post it here; if nothing else, I'm sure Mike might appreciate this.
Without further ado, I present to you...
The Scharpling & Wurster Drinking Game
Take a drink IF:
- Jon says “Wait, WHAT?” “WHY.” “You ____-dummy”, “Crack a book much?” or “I’ll nutshell it for you”
- Jon mispronounces a word or phrase
- Jon shares blatantly fabricated obscure trivia
- Something has “two horns” (take two drinks)
Take a shot IF:
- Jon does not change his voice
- Tom and Jon start talking about “Clifford”
- Jon refers to WFMU as a “high school radio station”
- Jon accuses Tom of using a voice modulator
- Jon threatens Tom
Finish your drink IF:
- Another caller interacts with Jon
- The call ends with Jon putting some blue on and falling asleep
- The call ends with Jon dead or incapacitated
