Title: Schmacross the Schmuniverse
Post by: TL on September 12, 2007, 12:21:03 AM
Has anyone else seen this crap (http://www.acrosstheuniverse.com/)?
I'm somewhat speechless, and I think the world should probably end soon.

I saw the trailer for this while at the movies a few weeks ago.  I screamed out loud in the theater.... in terror.

It's a natural progression from the laser light show. Everyone'll be doing it in the future! Just wait a few years when Lauren from "The Hills" stars opposite Andy Milonakis in Machines Break Down, the story behind "Colleen". I heard an enterprising young screenwriter (http://www.friendsoftom.com/fotpedia/index.php?title=Roy_Ziegler%2C_Jr.) is already hard at work on an adaptation.

I can't wait for the adaptation of Jesus Christ Allin's songs! The dance routines for "Suck My Ass It Smells" and "I Kill Everything I Fuck" are sure to be winners! Also, I betcha "I Live to Be Hated" will be an emotional and moving sequence.

Also: The costumes are brown. Mostly. Some are green. With paillettes.

It can't be worse then the Sgt Peppers movie. No wait it probably can.

Jai gu-ru de-va oh... no.

This is what that damn High School Musical nonsense has wrought, except they take all the fun out of it (even for teenage morons) and inject it with High Hollywood Idiocy.

Can't these people go back to doing nonstop rails and remaking "Independence Day?"  That sucked, too, but it wasn't so damned pretentious.

When this stuff was confined to Broadway ("Smokey Joe's Cafe," "Movin' Out," "Mama Mia," the Beach Boys thing, etc.) and the travelling versions thereof, it was annoying but I could ignore it.  I'm steeling myself, though, for this thing to be everywhere I look in a few weeks.
What's a term for being on the receiving end of the flogging of a dead horse?
Zombie-horse rape?
Yeah - that's what I'm afraid this is going to feel like.

I dunno... I wouldn't mind a sci-fi sexscapade flick based on some of those earlier POUT tracks.

"Within the lyrics of the world's most famous songs lives a story that's never been told...Until Now"

Man, I had exactly same idea years ago, except with the music of the Proclaimers. I was going to finally write the script right after I finished the FOT mix tape.
Julie Taymor must have overheard me talking about it when I worked on the Lion King.

There goes my fantasy of someday writing the book to the TL/Rx jukebox musical.

The really pathetic thing is I realize that it's a terrible terrible idea, but it was an actual fantasy nonetheless.  And I'm not even the only one I know who has entertained it.

This does look pretty awful, in any case.  Oh, Julie Taymor, what happened?  She used to be kind of cool once.
