Fair enough.

Isn't that pretty much the US Israel policy since 1948 though?
Unquestioning support for Israel, full stop.

Yes.

I'm voting for Obama, but I'm with Josh on this one.
How about trying to, you know, not replicate the same crap that's already on every board dominated by liberal types, which is itself only a mirror of the same crap that's already on every board dominated by conservative types?
How about doing something surprising or interesting instead?
-
Surprising or interesting? Jesus. Now I'm completely paralyzed.

Ball's in your court. Surprise us.

Fascinating.

Also, Israel is a stinking corpse.
Hey! You're a bad guy!!

Also, I don't agree with Junk 2.0 about how "Concentration Camps were really just a forerunner of 'Hooked on Phonics.'" That's offensive, Junk, and somehow beneath you.
Hey! I support all forms of genocide.
Goodness gracious! I didn't realize that we were dealing with "John Birch Junk 2.0," or I would have brought my tinfoil hat.
(You know I'm funning you, Junk. Don't you? :-[)
Dave B. - I sympathize and don't claim I have anything of particular interest to say, in a FOT context, on politics, besides my standard "a plague o' both your houses." It's just, if the FOTs ARE going to do politics, I'd rather it be more content-oriented than "isn't Sarah Palin an idiot, look at these videos."
And I didn't mean to single out Moonshake in particular.
Honestly, I think we need to put the blame for this where it belongs - on Josh. Am I right?

I thought that some of the discussions within the political threads were interesting, and that some of the jokes and asides within those discussions were funny. Yes, a lot of it appears on other boards, but that's okay with me ... It reduces the number of other boards I'm compelled to visit for polictical chatter. I'd rather get my political chatter filtered thru FOT sensibilities than from other places. Geeze, if you think the threads over here are humorless, you should see what passes for humor on most other boards.
(That last sentence was directed more towards Josh, I guess).
As far as "isn't Sarah Palin an idiot, look at these videos" ... sure, it's not the most erudite way to discuss the issue, but you can understand the compulsion, right? For most of us, it's been less than a month since she was sprung upon our collective conciousness. We're still trying to figure out who this crazy bitch is, and why she's next in succession to the OLDEST presidential candidate EVER.
Fear not, I'm sure the volume of political threads will diminish after November. Unless, of course, there's a year-2000 style balloting fuckup.
-
This is not even about politics anymore, or where you stand politically, we as a nation cannot afford to have this person be Vice President. If she was smart, or selfless, she would realize this and step down. Obviously, she is not.
Jack Cafferty loses his cool in this clip, rightfully so.

I'm looking forward to the first VP debate on Oct 2.

Ok, just sharing this in case it's not posted on too many other blogs because it's kind of funny at parts, and also instructional:

Now that was fairly thoughtful, if laborious. I find it a little puzzling that this gentleman believes that Sarah Palin is undoubtedly smart enough for the job. Poor television interview performances aside -- discounting them entirely -- how do we know this?
Unless you believe that the presidency is a job in which intelligence is not an asset but may actually be a hindrance (viz. Herbert Hoover, Jimmy Carter, both thought to be exceptionally intelligent presidents who had unsuccessful presidencies), it's an important, given her lack of experience. What else does she bring to the table?
To my mind, the vice presidential role is one of succession planning, since the veep has very little responsibility per se unless the president is unable to serve. Is the nominated individual capable of performing successfully as president?
I apologize that this message isn't entertaining or funny.

Josh is right. We need more threads about running onto me on the street.
-
We need more threads like that old favorite, Pie versus Cake! When ordinary dialogue goes off the rails, what better to do?
Everyone has an opinion, everyone can weigh in. And you know what? No one is really wrong. Or are they?
So in that vein, more suggestions for lively debate:
Strawberry or vanilla?
Raspberry or strawberry?
Blue or red? (this is not a political question)
Crack or heroin?
Rita Heyworth or Lana Turner?
I know where I stand.
-
Be sure to check out the Sarah Palin baby name generator, which answers the burning question, what would your name be if you were born to Sarah Palin?

My Palin name is "Wood Corps". Is that like "dead body", or "marine corps"? The latter, I suppose. This kind of ties in to what I was saying before (http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/index.php/topic,4075.msg79558.html#msg79558), about how Palin family naming trends are the polar opposite of Rockstar naming trends.

And videos of men getting hit in the balls!!!

This isn't a video, but the song "North to Alaska" is about Sarah Palin, and it really puts liberals in their place.

"No friends in her house from the SLA"? Whichever SLA this refers to,* this doesn't seem like much of an achievement.
*Symbionese Liberation Army, Special Libraries Association, Sri Lankan Army, Sudanese Liberation Army, State Liquor Authority, State Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control / State Liquor Authority), South Lebanese Army, Saskatchewan Library Association, Scottish Library Association, Société Canadienne de la Sclérose Latérale Amyotrophique (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society of Canada), sexual liberation army, Sindhi Language Authority, Smart Living Association, Security Logistics Agency, Strategic Logistic Agency, Student Librarian Association . . .

Way to do the research, Sarah! ;D

It was grueling: the first hit in a search on "SLA acronym."

I bet he meant the first one, since that's the one a stupid person would most likely mix up with the Weathermen. Meanwhile, after I posted the link, the Conservative Music Online site kept playing in the background. "Hating America First" actually made me hate America for allowing this guy the freedom to express himself.
-
In all of my extensive research about the SLA, I was never able to figure out whether they had any success in liberating the citizens of Symbia.

Perhaps they died.
-
Wait, I remember reading somewhere that the SLA used to be led by Obama, and that they kidnapped Palin and brainwashed her and she was all like Kill Whitey and stuff, and then she robbed a bank. Am I wrong about this?

Well, I guess this was inevitable. Sarah Palin interviewed by Marge Gunderson:
