Oooh, I was certain this thread was going to be about the Carlton Arms (http://www.carltonarms.com/rooms.html). They have cats! Two of them! Awwww. Some of the rooms are fun (4D, the Jungle Room (http://flickr.com/photos/rerun1971/tags/carleton/), & 5B, the submarine room, for example), but there are some that are just terrifying. I think the scariest one has been remodeled, though, so I don't know... I kind of love the pulp one, though, but I'm I would forget about the mannequin and have a titty attack about a stranger being in my room if I stumble into the room at half past four, or I'd wake up to go to the bathroom, and, "HELLO, CRAZY MANNEQUIN."

Also, Bob Coulter did this really great series of photos featuring girls doing various naughty things. My second favorite porno star Janine is featured in it. I think Molly Crabapple might also be in that one, but don't quote me. She runs those fun Dr. Sketchy drawing class thingies.

I'm going to post some pictures I scammed from Flickr now.

Oh, and check out this person's photostream (http://flickr.com/photos/justbadpot/tags/carltonarmshotel/) for some really good pictures. Also, this stream (http://flickr.com/photos/kimberlym/tags/carltonarmshotel/) has some great pics, too.

Wow! The Carlton Arms! it's been years since I stayed there.  It's a lot chi-chi-er than I remember it in the early '90s.  None of the raw, primitive looking decor from those days seems to be there anymore.  I have to say, room 3D would kind of drive me nuts and probably keep me awake all night.  Rooms 10D and 2D might be alright - I like blues and purples for the bedroom.  Room 9B makes me laugh even though it's probably not supposed to, and room 6A is just plain obnoxious.  I don't think I could stay in the all-red room for fear of a visitation by the ghost of Diana Vreeland.  Thanks, Laurie, for reminding me of this magnificent place.

Seriously, how cute is that "PIE ADVENTURE!" corridor? And the cartoony jungle room! I love it.

Here in DC we have a place called the Mansion at O Street. It has hidden corridors to rooms, and no locks! (except from the inside)

Oh, and I met George Clinton there! And he asked if I could help him score some Coke!

Who is the #1 favorite porno star?

Is this the sort of thing that should be a poll?  Not that I know anything about it.  Er.

Belladonna, of course. She made a little movie when she was all knocked up called My Ass Is Haunted. It's as good as it sounds!

The only thing I've seen with her is a fairly lame collection called Belladonna Exposed http://adult.dvdempire.com/Exec/v1_item.asp?userid=99365226682099&item_id=553198&searchStrID=313 (http://adult.dvdempire.com/Exec/v1_item.asp?userid=99365226682099&item_id=553198&searchStrID=313)
that has three scenes with her and some old timer (Randy West I think). The rest of the DVD is a bunch of wildly uneven scenes, video quality-wise, involving a random collection of starlets with either Randy West or Ed Powers (shudder). I'll have to track down some of the Evil Angel stuff, because, ah, I can see her potential, Laurie. It's almost frightening to think that Belladonna's favorite male counterpart is Nacho Vidal. The dude is psycho.

My vote, though, is for Dana DeArmond. Viva la alt porn.

Oh, I like the alt porn, I do. I'm just not a big fan of Joanna Angel, and that bitch is in everything. I actually think she's the female counterpart to Nacho Vidal, because she is truly psycho. The stories I've heard...

If I didn't know him, my favorite male counterpart would be Zak Smith. Sabbath. Whatever. I don't feel terribly comfortable watching people I've had conversations with do... stuff. So I'll say my favorite male porn star is Owen Hawk. He thinks I'm witty! I made him laugh! I won a copy of Mutiny! Thanks, Owen! Thanks, Fleshbot! Yeah.

Laurie, since you evidentally know people in the alt-porn world have you happened to get word about what Ian MacKaye thinks of that Eon McKai guy?  I can't imagine he'd be flattered by someone "honoring" him in that fashion.  Now I'm just waiting for the inevitable stars named Slayter Kinni or D. Poon.

Hey, I know Eon! I introduced Eon to Zak because he was doing his Girls in the Naked Girl Business series, and Eon produced his first real porno, directed by Benny Profane. So I'm somewhat responsible for him getting into porn. Zak painted Eon, and I think a curator for the Whitney now owns that painting or something.

Yeah.

Anyhow, I asked Ian this question when he came to Miami with Amy Farina to play at record store (http://sweatrecordsmiami.com/) (this was before Hurricane Wilma kicked Sweat's ass, and they got a new space at Churchill's Pub). He said that he was weirded out about it at first, but that it's kind of funny. He's okay with it. He actually found out about Eon because his friend saw a sticker (drawn by the adorable Gea (http://www.geaphiles.com/)) on a bathroom wall, I think, and she emailed him about it.

You interview them. At least, that's how it worked with me. Also, I was an "old skool" member of SuicideGirls, and I used to write these highly personal and terribly long journal entries. I got along with quite a few of the members, some of whom were in the porno industry. Like, the Valley porn industry -- "real" porn. I'm not so active in the community any more, but I fucking love the Celeb Worship group, and I'm not surprised at all that the first friends I made on that site are also active members of the Warship. Who doesn't like watching video clips of Paula Abdul absolutely wasted and speculating on whether her excessive jawing is related to coke abuse?

My favorite Belladonna performance was when Diane Sawyer interviewed her and she broke down in tears. HOT STUFF!

Now don't get me wrong, I love me some smut. like, a bit too much. I've always wondered what compels someone to enter the business, though.

http://www.oneangrygirl.net/Belladonna.htm (http://www.oneangrygirl.net/Belladonna.htm)

Behind the Smile

During interviews with Primetime , Michelle kept the happy smile she had always had - even when describing things that many people would find disturbing. However, her composure cracked when Diane Sawyer asked why she always smiled. Tears came to her eyes as she said, "Because I like to hide - hide everything, you know?" Then she began to cry, explaining that she hides her real emotions because she wants to show everyone how happy she is. "And I'm not happy … I don't like myself at all," she said.

Michelle confessed she often felt physical revulsion during her scenes: "My whole entire body feels it when I'm doing it and … I feel so - so gross." While pretending to be enjoying the sex, she said, she was in fact counting the minutes, telling herself, "Hey, I only have this much time left. Don't worry about it. Get the check. Gonna go deposit it in your bank." She admitted: "You get addicted to the money."

Like other performers Primetime spoke to, Michelle said that during shooting she often imagines herself outside her body. "I call it the 'other half,' " she said.

Yikes. I hope someone got her a copy of Healing Sex (http://www.healingsexthemovie.com/home.html) for Christmas.

I think her issues with sex stem mostly from her Mormon background. Have you read Under the Banner of Heaven (http://www.amazon.com/Under-Banner-Heaven-Story-Violent/dp/1400032806/sr=8-1/qid=1168798503/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-7210916-8047857?ie=UTF8&s=books)? Weird stuff.

I don't know to many girls in hardcore porn, so I don't feel comfortable making any generalizations. I can tell you, however, that the girls who did Ssspread (a now defunct website, but there's a DVD floating around if you're curious) were pretty much exclusively emotionally healthy. Of course, it was all amateur, and you wouldn't expect anyone to do Ssspread for the money, seeing as how they paid, like, 75 bucks for a photoshoot and a little more for videos. They were mostly San Francisco On Our Backs dykes who wanted to have a good time, girlfriends who wanted to have a little fun and show the world what real lesbian sex and love looks like. Or something like that. A really cool artist lady named Barb started it and came up with the idea shortly after her NEA grant was revoked. She spent a lot of time in the Chicago area. Maybe you're familiar with Barbara DeGenevieve, Richard?

I saw Belladonna right after she had a baby at Whole Foods in Valencia, CA.  She actually looked kinda unwashed and tired but also was definitely Belladonna, and therefore hot regardless of actual appearance.  She was carrying a baby and had a very big meathead dude with her (husband?).  I couldn't tell if her ass was still haunted.

The one woman I know who does porn does girl-on-girl only and says it's actually better than stripping.  Like she won't strip, as it's too degrading.  But she'll do all sorts of nutty stuff with other women on film, and lord knows what off film.  I think the male-female dynamic and the actual-dong thing changes everything.  Also, you can never underestimate television newscasters' abilities to emotionally manipulate their subjects.  But also also, the little I've seen of Belladonna's recent stuff is pretty fucking gnarly (that's right, I said gnarly, L.A. Reprazent!).

Well, I looked into it, and Belladonna said many of her comments were taken out of context and she did indeed feel manipulated.

No comment on how I feel about Belladonna's recent work. Laurie the Perv sounds a lot like Larry the perv, as it is. Although I can see what you mean if you're talking about Manhandled. Also, keep in mind that Belladonna directed Fetish Fanatic 5, which I think is her most recent, so she had a say in a lot of what went on there. And I'm not going to say she had total control, because I know a lot of porno houses push for various popular acts, like DP which has been crazy popular for a while now, and I'm not talking about Directors of Photography here, but I do know some directors have more control than others, especially if they've won AVN awards or have a lot of promise.

I'm just talking about the latest free 30 second mpg's.  It's not like I actually pay for my smut.  I just mean she looks rugged and raw but usually also like she's calling the shots.  And those shots are pretty gnarly.  I'm fragile. :-[

Hey, I restrain myself all the time!  But that was too good not to point out.  Think of poor Belladonna, sweating and straining on the floor of Whole Foods, writhing not in the throes of faux passion but the real torture of childbirth, and then valiantly heaving herself upright in order to pick up some wholesome fare for that night's table.  Inspiring, no?

Sarah, Please tell me if this is correct, grammatically.  And if not, howso, and if so, howso, 'cause I would like to know, honestly.  Is it, like, inverted or something?  and I'm pretty sure there's almost never an appropriate time to use the term "whilst", right?  and yes, I know that I just started two sentences with a lower-case "and".

In the months following her pregnancy and subsequent birth-giving, I happened upon the unwashed  and bedraggled Belladonna whilst shopping in the local Whole Foods.

I'm no Sarah, but "whilst (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While)" is perfectly acceptable. It seems like it and "learnt (http://www.askoxford.com/asktheexperts/faq/aboutspelling/learnt)" are British/old tymey words that have found new life recently, though I'm still trying to introduce "will'nt" as an acceptable replacement of "won't" to little avail.

Dear John:

I have no grammatical bones to pick with your revision, though I would have forgone* "In the months following" in favor of, perhaps, "Sometime after," unless, of course, you encountered her repeatedly over a stretch of time.  And, since you're using the rather affected (though perfectly correct) "whilst," may I suggest "accouchement" instead of "birth-giving"?

Arcu, wouldn't "willn't" be the proper form (along the lines of "don't")?  And how about expanding your campaign to include replacing "aren't" with "amn't"?

*This gives me a chance to offer some evidence that I'm a language jerk in real life as well:  recently, I startled my sister by using "forwent" quite casually during a phone conversation.  All in all, I suffer from an irritating tendency to combine stilted/archaic/fancy-pants language with colloquial- and regionalisms.  I can be truly annoying.  As you've no doubt inferred.

I confess as much.  However, I sincerely appreciate your input, and I wish I had someone like you in my immediate circle of friends, as I would be constantly running things by you.

(or is it "...I would constantly be running things by you"?)

...see!

p.s.--I see a grammatically pristine collaborative Fan Fiction involving alt-porn heavies in wacky hotel rooms.

p.p.s.--maybe not.

HOLY SH*T!!!

The carlton arms is the WORST hotel in the history of hotels. I stayed their once in the early 90's, stay in a box before you stay there. The power failed 5 or 6 times in the 3 days I was there, the radiator in our room exploded, and the place was infested.

ICKY.
