I couldn't find if this had already been discussed elsewhere on the board. My non-NJ-resident self had never heard of this thing before:

9/11 was obviously a tragedy and everything. But man, that thing is ugly. And, uh, suggestive. Will we get to see it in the Bayonne travelogue, I wonder?
-
I can imagine Mike seeing that for the first time and saying "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like!" before cackling and then shotgunning the can of beer he was carrying around with him. This would happen at an 8am unveiling ceremony for the monument.
I don't know, my apologies if I'm doing Mike a disservice by picturing him as someone who is down with canned beer in this scenario.
-
I considered visiting the monument for my Bayonne travelogue and making some sort of crack about it being "strangely erotic," but nixed the idea when I realized that some of the more sensitive sorts at my uncle's bar would probably give me shit about it.
-
Also, I've got no beef with canned beer. Actually, in an informal survey at a liquor store I worked at many years ago, it was determined that Bud cans was the best beer that we sold.

I'm sure Mickey Dee's is voted best food on the go, their burgers still taste like masking tape.

Hahaha, spoken like a true beer snob, Smelodies!

Dear Mike,
Can we do a FOT gathering at your uncle's bar? I imagine we could provide enough material for the regulars to give you shit for years.
(I was going to suggest a listening party but I'm thinking they might not turn down the Yankees game to listen to a talk radio show.)

Detached from the context, the teardrop isn't that bad a sculpture, really.
It's far better than the Pat Tillman statue. Tillman deserved far better than this:

ok, rediscovered an old thread on the ilxor forum (disclosure: i posted on that thread) about ugly statues. The Bayonne tear crack is like the pyramids compared to the Mr. Rogers statue in Pittsburgh. So is the Pat Tillman statue:

Poor guy looks like he's been The Thing-ed.

Not sure what he's carrying. A rice cooker and a couple of $20s?

Or a tiny wrench? Is it a statue of him running off the field to go put a bookshelf together?

Oh man. Now I'm gonna have nightmares.

Was the list of Pat Tillman facial expressions really that short?

I really want to see a photo of a little kid fitting his whole fist in that mouth.

All the good Colorado breweries have been following the lead of Oskar Blues and putting beer in cans. Cans are better than bottles in a lot of ways. I think it's an issue similar to corks vs. screw tops; everyone knows screw tops are better but there's a sentimental attachment to the old way.
-
The thing I hate about canned beer is that today's cans are so flimsy that I tend to crush them when I drink out of them, which leads to unexpected spritzes and the like. My lips also prefer the sensation of drinking out of a bottle to that of drinking out of a can.

That aluminum will rot your brain.
