WFMU: Big in Iran
« on: July 22, 2007, 01:10:34 PM »
according to alexa.com:

Wfmu.org users come from these countries:
United States30.5%
Iran8.1%
Czech Republic3.6%
Saudi Arabia3.5%
United Kingdom3.1%
etc...

Are these stats real?  Does anyone have an explanation for this?  Are there burgeoning underground music scenes in Iran and Saudi Arabia in which WFMU is well known?

They are taking notes for the impending worldwide punishment of the infidels. Those found to have used Blue will have their lips taken off.

I think this is due to Mike proclaiming the films of Abbas Kiarostami to be a "laff riot."

this is only slightly related, but when my friend gene was visiting kuwait this january he noted on his blog that wfmu's beware of the blog and i suppose the whole site was blocked.  here's a link to his post regarding the blockage

without getting too political, i think it's encouraging to see that a number of iranians appreciate wfmu and see it as an example of americans taking the media into their own hands and doing great things with the free speech that's their right.  it's also slightly ironic (and strangely encouraging) that our greatest arab ally in the region may see wfmu as a threat.
