Help! Need a French Translator
« on: January 20, 2008, 01:30:43 PM »
Hi Folks-
Though I work at a public library and a few of my coworkers are fluent in French, they're not the types I feel I can bother with this. Nor do I really want to give them a glimpse of my obsession du jour. But you guys? Not a problem. ;)

The project in question is this: I want to get a translation of the lyrics of Chantal Goya's "Une Echarpe Une Rose". It's here at the WFMU Blog http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/12/sensei-rebels-1.html

I've been immersing myself in 60's ye-ye and other French pop for about a year now, and it usually doesn't bother me that I don't understand what they're saying. This one, I'd like to know...so if anyone out would be so kind as to take the time to translate this, I'd be forever grateful. As a sort of repayment, I could offer expertise from my professional sphere: anything you want to know about Bookmobiles, I can tell you.

Or-alternatively-a lyric sheet in French, would work. That way I could do the translation myself, online.

No need to worry.  My wife is translating it as we speak.

I get the feeling that the "Library Industry" (as Saul Tompkins called it) is well represented in the FOT...

OK, here's Marie Laure's translation for you...

in English:

The vacation's over and my heart feels heavy
and I can't stop thinking on the ride back
about the boy from the village who has shared my joys
We had the same age and I will keep with me...

... a scarf, a rose, a boy's laughter
a scarf, a rose, something of a song.

The vacation's over and I know tomorrow
life will go on and lessen my sorrow
and yet never will I ever feel again
the first time I kissed, and deep inside of me...

... a scarf, a rose, a boy's laughter
a scarf, a rose, something of a song.

The vacation's over and tomorrow school will start again
It wasn't much really, we were just having fun
I liked the village and I think I kind of like
some boy of my age who is crying back there back there...

... a scarf, a rose, a boy's laughter
a scarf, a rose, something of a song.

Wow.

This is overwhelming; thank you so very much, especially Marie Laure. It's easy to see that it was a lot of work and I had no luck until I thought to post here. And in less than an afternoon, I have it. Wow.

Merci beaucoup!! I love it!

Anything to support someone from the library industry, who make up along with mailmen the real "troops" in my book.
