Please Help Me Figure Out This Song Lyric.

Hello all -

This one lyric has been bouncing in my head for a day now:

"Loneliness is a very sad affair".

It is NOT from The Carpenters' "Superstar", however.

It is sung by a male.

It feels like it might be very indie, so perhaps Laurie knows.

Please help me identify it so I can play the song and move on.

When I split it into just "loneliness is" "sad affair", I picked up Sonic Youth's "Superstar". Is it that? The other two that show up are Dogstar and Bette Midler, but seems like those might be longshots.

Sonic Youth's "Superstar" is a cover of the Carpenters song, so that's not it.

Based on that one line, I'm thinking Murder Junkies. Right?

It's still possible, though.  The cover contains the line "loneliness is such a sad affair" and is sung by a man, so Sonic Youth does sound like a good bet.

Could it be Roxy Music's "Bittersweet"? That has the lyric "Well this is such a sad affair."
