I know an FOT who just graduated from Rutgers, but I don't know if he is on the board or not. I know he's on Facebook, though.
That didn't help any, did it? I don't know if it'd be rude to give his name out.

If he was an English major, I'm sure the boy would be interested in hearing about this person's experience.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Courtney, is your boyfriend going to grad school for English?  I work with a lot of TAs.  I'm practically a dinosaur for my job category (started as an adjunct in 2003), so I've actually seen a few classes cycle in and out.  They seem a lot happier now than when I started.  I do think the English PhD program is really good.

As for your actual question: I think I would have loved New Brunswick when I was actually in college, but I'm not sure I can recommend it as a living place for an adult (no offense, kids).  Princeton and its environs are pretty great, and despite the Ivy League name, still probably have some affordable places to live -- like a lot of NJ, the big money is in the exburbs.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

No - after watching me bite the bullet and go back to school after an 8-year break and watching me graduate last week, he said it inspired him to go back to school (after, like, 15 years) and he wants to do it up right. We want to move and preferably at least near an area where we know people. He researched English undergrad programs and, based on what he read and stuff, Rutgers seemed closest to what he was looking for without having the ability (or money), most likely, to make it into an ivy league school - type of program, faculty, etc. Maybe he should keep looking?

It would be nice if the town was neat too, though honestly, I'll probably be so happy to get the eff out of Lincoln, NE I won't care, at least for a while!

Rutgers is a good school, but I'm not sure it has any major advantages over the University of Nebraska, except for proximity to NYC (it's an hour train ride).  And it would get you out of Lincoln, I guess.
