The Mike Show - Intervention/Hoarders thread
« on: September 19, 2009, 07:43:46 PM »
Alright, after hearing all about it on The Mike Show I'm checking out Hoarders right now. Good lord, I don't think I've ever seen anything this sad before.  That Mike is one sick dude.

Relax, clay. I'm fine. Hoarders is indeed sad. As I've said, any show that is basically people throwing out garbage is hardly what I'd call entertaining. But still, you have to admit that there's something horribly comic about a rotten pumpkin in the middle of someone's living room.

I just end up getting mad at the people hoarding all that crap.

I just went and found an ep online too, it was the one w/the woman in Seattle w/2 houses who was facing foreclosure and the young woman in VA whose bf had one foot out the door.

I got mad too but I then swerved into horrified, then disgusted, etc. I agree that i don't think it's really entertaining long term, but it was fascinating to watch one ep, and I'm amazed and sad that this is basically an untreatable illness. Didn't sound like there were any meds for this sort of thing - not that flinging pills at someone is always the solution, I"m just saying it shouldn't be the ONLY solution.

Wouldn't it be great in treating these people long term if they could- I don't know, chemically castrate that part of themselves that makes them linger for 2 hours over a bag of garbage to make sure they don't want to keep any old shampoo bottles or empty jewelry boxes? Then they could do therapy to work on whatever in the hell makes them do this.

I've only ever seen a couple episodes of Intervention.  I definitely saw the famous "Walking on Sunshine" one, which still makes me laugh when I think about it.  Not the episode, just the way she says it.  I've never seen an episode of Hoarders, but I feel like I've seen every one just from listening to Best Show.

Doing it Mentos style.

Heya Mike! I was talking about Tom's radio version of Mike, not you!

I saw the episode with the dozens of cats.
