Oh, dear lord. They've recruited a trumpeter.

WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE PLUGGED IN IF THEY'RE JUST PRACTICING?

Let me tell you, this kid has to be worse than either of your roommates, T. Rox. HAS TO BE.

Can you record it and upload it here?
It might become an internet sensation and they may be forced to stop.

I've considered doing it... I'd have to drop by Radio Hut and pick up some sort of digital recorder, as my old one broke. Like, in 2003.

Okay, guys, I need your help. I've decided to take Jed's advice and put together a mix of rootsy-punk songs for my neighbor's misguided kid. Thus far I've got The Slits, Teddy Rockstar, Bad Brains, X-Ray Spex, and The Specials, and The Jam.

Suggestions? I'm trying to move them away from No Doubt and Sublime, two bands that I am reasonably sure serve as their main frame of reference for their "sound," as it is.

Jay Reatard dude.  Wire.  Buzzcocks.  What about, like, Operation Ivy??

and for some reason I suddenly thought of that band Screeching Weasel.  Ouch.

I'm scared Op Ivy will send them in the wrong direction. Yes to Jay Reatard, and I had already added Wire to the mix.

Re Op Ivy, how about another Armstrong and Freeman joint: Rancid's ... And Out Come The Wolves?  I never liked the previous Rancid albums and have not heard much of their subsequent work, but AOCTW is awesome.

So far this mix sounds like a No Doubt inspiration tape, except for Screeching Waesel..

I still say record them and upload it. How awesome would it be to have an all FOT judged battle of the bands with Strangers Vibe and Filthy Laurie's neighbors without any of their knowledge.

My vote is for straight and simple punk. Jay Reatard, maybe Minor Threat, some Ramones and Misfits too. This is feeling less and less possible to fix. But you never know what hearing good music can do to a kid, especially when it comes from an adult in the know.

Speaking of Minor Threat...

That's the art work I'm going to use for the cover.

Reminds me of that post Linus did back in February:
