Good online clothing stores?
« on: September 23, 2009, 12:12:22 PM »
Are there any? Like, not just T-shirts, but REAL clothes? And don't say Ambercrombie & Fitch - it's already my homepage.
It ain't ego, it's my love for you.

List of quality U S A clothing and stuff:

http://www.acontinuouslean.com/the-american-list/

Some I've used that are pretty cheap.

http://www.usa-wear.com/ (the world's best rugby shirts, t shirts that are made in the USA but don't cost $30 each)

http://www.ebay.com (I've gotten some vintage clothes as well as my wedding clothes through ebay, though you need to know what you're looking for)

http://www.bestcustomshirt.com/ (if you can wait three weeks and have a tape measurer, you DEFINITELY want custom-made shirts.  Not more expensive at all with their various deals).

Worth it if there's a sale, otherwise quite expensive.

http://www.filson.com/ (best quality rugged gear, puts Dickies and Carhartt to shame)

http://shop.oconnellsclothing.com/

http://www.theandovershop.com/

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/

http://www.jpressonline.com/

Shoes

You can get Red Wing/Vans/Bass/Sperry/Chucks/almost everything on Zappos.  I can't afford really nice shoes.

But if you want the best shoes in the world, you need

http://www.aldenshop.com/

or

http://www.allenedmonds.com/

or, for more causal stuff

http://www.quoddy.com/

Only if you want your picture taken by the Sartorialist:

Also http://www.duluthtrading.com also.  For outdoorsy/rugged clothes.

Also, Eddie Bauer has a douche reputation and I've never bought from them online, but I got the most amazing deals on good quality khaki pants and plaid shirts at an Eddie Bauer outlet store a few weeks ago.  Like, a pair of pants for $4.  It was really weird.

I'm a big fan of shopping for clothes at the hardware and camping stores when I can, because "work" gear that can pass in an office environment never gets wrinkled and lasts forever, and does this without being made of space plastic.

Gilt. I'm obsessed with it. Click here if you need an invite. Yes, there's stuff on there that's marked down from $2000 to $700, or even from $5,000 to $1,400, but there's also stuff on there that's marked down from $100 to $30. New stuff goes up six days a week, the sales are limited, and the ladies stuff gets snatched up quick. You have a half hour to snatch something up from Tretorn. I'll send you an invite. There are some really nice items there, almost all under $50. Oh wow, and there are some pretty good deals on Ted Baker suits here. The prices are lower than the Men's Wearhouse. Oh, and there are some pretty nice sneakers by Alife for $38-$40.

My favorite find? A super cute Alexander McQueen pair of flats with, like, an oversized pyramid stud. They were $78, I think. Unbelievable.

Edit: On Friday, there's going to be a Trovata Men's sale at noon. If I were a man, I would sit in front of my computer at 11:55 am and keep hitting the F5 button until the Trovata sales page is clickable. Trovata is great grown up clothes, but not too grown up, and I imagine the prices are going to be insane. I think hey retail for around $100-200. Knowing Gilt, you'll be able to snatch up some very nice wardrobe staples for maybe $30-$60.
Too soon?

I second the Gilt love. Another site called ShopStyle is a nice amalgamation of lots of other sites ... I don't like the navigation though.

Overstock.com is great and Lands End Overstocks can get you some excellent clothes that will last you a long time. Very durable stuff, and often at a good price.

While somewhat expensive, roguesgallery.com is a cool place from Portland, Maine. Vintage t-shirts with cool themes and nicer clothes. I have a few things from there as my brother worked there and I wish I could afford some more.

Not sure if it's up your alley though! Just a suggestion!
