Not going to any NYC-area shows, sadly, but I will be catching them in Memphis on Saturday! With the terrific Spider Bags!

I'm going to HAVE A GOOD TIME for once.

Gonna be checking them out in Buffalo next weekend. Gonna be a real good time, although I'm jealous about that Memphis show with the Spider Bags - what a great double bill.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

They played a free show in Miami last year during the Art Basel Miami festivities. I had so much fun. We were fairly drunk -- Art Basel week = every gallery has open parties with open bars, which means FREE COCKTAILS. Pretty much. Also, there was a keg of light beer (lite beer? idk) at this show, but it was FREE. But they were very nice and honored all of our requests: "We Repel Each Other" (I think I remember saying, "I hope I don't repel you! I LOVE YOU GUYS!"; their "Stormy Weather" cover (it had been rainy for a while then); and what we called "that Christmas song you guys do," because it was December, and neither of us could remember the exact title of that song.

I had more fun at that show than pretty much any I can remember. They're great live, as you can hear on their live CD. Go see them! You won't regret it.
Too soon?

The show last night was AWESOME. I haven't had that good a time in forever. Before the show, I was checking out Goner Records - I had never been before last night - and Greg Cartwright came in to shop for 45s. I would've said something to him, but I'm a coward. A damn coward. Got some good records, though. The Limes and Spider Bags were awesome, and Greg was DJing in between sets. He played Helene Smith's "You Got to Be a Man"; I didn't recognize any of the other songs.

I was surprised at how long they played. They did almost all of LOVE AND CURSES (no "Banker and a Liar" or "Stick Up For Me"), classic stuff ("Stormy Weather," "Reptile Style"), other-band stuff ("Stop And Think It Over"). They even did a cover of George Jackson's "Tender Love," one of my favorite songs ever, and one almost no one else knew.

So they're pretty much the best band going, right? Greg Cartwright is as good as it gets.

If they actually have the balls to not play "Stick Up For Me" when I see them this weekend, I will storm the stage and demand a refund.

And you would be in the right to do so. That song is incredibly amazing and infectious.

I must admit that I was shocked by its exclusion. But they played "Trash Talk," so I couldn't complain.

I'm working in CT right now but if I can get out of here early enough Friday I'll be at the Southpaw show.

I had a ticket for the last southpaw show and ended up getting waylaid and not making it. Hoping that doesn't happen this time.
