Current Punk Rock
« on: March 08, 2012, 07:58:55 PM »
Hey! I am interested in connecting with the kids.

Are there any good punk bands kicking around? I'm more in the camp of The Queers than The Casualties. But I can also get down with some hardcore, if there's any of that floating around.

I await your suggestions!

In terms of straightforward punk Banner Pilot, Dear Landlord, The Menzingers, Riverboat Gamblers, Dead To Me and Off With Their Heads might be up your alley.

Rotting Out, Get The Most, Betrayed, Miles Away, Paint It Black, Ceremony and Mindset are great contemporary hardcore bands that keep classic inspirations.

I hope this helps!

The Bronx.

I don't listen to very much punk anymore, but Vacation by Bomb the Music Industry might be my favorite album of 2011:

They used to be more of a ska-punk band, but this album drops the ska to great effect. And like all of their albums, it's free to download and sample. I recommend "Vocal Coach" and "Hurricane Waves".

I also like Joyce Manor a lot:

Jay Reatard's "Blood Visions" is pretty much a new gold standard for punk rock in the past decade. He was a great talent and any other releases with his name on it are worth checking out.

Newer bands that are doing something worth checking out are Total Control and Iceage -- both bands are doing something pretty original and creative.

As far as sing-along punk goes, no one beats the Spits, especially albums 2-4.

I should say that as far as the Queers go, the only stuff I can still stand is on "Day Late and a Dollar Short." And that I disagree with the previous recommendations (though I do like that Hoax footage.) Not to start any arguments -- just realize that my definition of good punk is much different...
