Back Surgery/Back Pain
« on: February 26, 2010, 04:59:55 PM »
Has anyone had it?

Specifically, has anyone had a microdiskectomy or however you spell it? The minimally invasive thing for herniated discs?

I'm dealing with (indirectly) two herniated discs pushing down on the sciatic nerve. I work with a lot of anti-surgery people but I hear this one's not a big deal. Just wanted to see if any FOTs had any experience with such things.

It's really hard to watch someone be in pain for 3 months. Sucks.

I have had conventional back surgery twice.  The second time was to correct damage from the first.

The more I learn the less I wish I had surgery in the first place.  Conditioning and stretching and ice and hot baths are the best treatment.  Also pain is signal that something is wrong.  But if you ignore it long enough (while taking the above measures) pain will diminish (unless you are a red-head).  I think the body gets the message that you got the message and starts calling less frequently and emphatically.
