The Dice Man!
« on: July 29, 2010, 06:38:28 PM »
Hey all. Been a while since I've posted on here. Cool to see all the changes on here!

Anyways, simple question getting back in the swing of things...

What was the Andrew Dice Clay album Tom has mentioned where it sounds like he is just falling apart? It's been something I've wanted to hear for a while now but cannot remember the name! I'm a terrible FOT, I know!

And after hearing a bit of his on the radio today, I can safely say...how the hell did this guy fool everybody into thinking he was funny? yeesh.
He's this soulless bastard from Siberia. I once saw him shove Fred Savage's face in a toilet.

Pretty sure it's called "The Day the Laughter Died" or something close to that. Google agrees.

Yeah it's The Day the Laughter Died. Produced by Rick Rubin for some reason!

It makes a huge difference.  You really get the pure, uncluttered Andrew Dice Clay sound, as it was meant to be heard.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Rubin should reunite with Dice and have him put out comedy versions of the American album series, with the Dice Man doing covers of classic jokes and comedy bits. The first volume of Andrew Dice Clay: American Recordings could have him do a series of Henny Youngman jokes, Who's On First?, Slowly I Turned (Niagara Falls), a dramatic a capella version Victor Borge playing the William Tell Overture upside down, Bill Cosby's Noah bit and some other classics.
This may be the year I will disappear.

Niagara Falls rhymes with balls so that'd give Dice plenty of material to work with.

If you're into comics eating it you might want to check out some of those Bill Hicks videos on Youtube. Anybody know of any other examples?

Seriously, what's the story with that Day the Laughter Died album?  I know it's unfunny (with ADC, that's axiomatic) but is it clear that everyone involved--Clay, the audience, Rubin, the record label--knows it's just pathetically unfunny and if so, why was it released? and if not, where did that title come from?  Was Clay saying, "Look I keep it so real that you even get to hear me fuck up"? Was the record label taking revenge on him for some reason (like when Bob Dylan jumped to Geffen and Columbia struck back by releasing an album of his worst-ever outtakes, and yeah I do hope that's the first time Andrew Dice Clay has ever been compared to Bob Dylan)?

Andrew Dice Clay/Def American probably released The Day The Laughter Died because Dice figured he was on his way to a successful movie career, and wanted to end the whole stand-up thing. Anyone remember the Adventures Of Ford Fairlane? Well, he ended up being busy doing secondary or tertiary characters in a gazillion movies until 2001. Successful? Maybe.

Just recently, he's trying to make a comeback. But since this was news to me until I looked at his wiki page just a few seconds ago, the comeback probably isn't working.

Ive always been partial to this video, ive never seen laughter die quicker. This is how all Larry the Cable guys shows should end. My favorite part is when he asks the crowd "what do ya think folks?".

The only other one i could think of was of course the Kramer incident.
