Hi Everyone. New fan since the relaunch of the show, and it has taken over my life. I used to listen to several different podcasts, but now all I want to listen to is the best show. Thankfully (dauntingly) there are 1,500 hours in the WFMU archives. I had a question for the long-time FOT's. Is Tom dead set against any type of Kickstartr or Gofundme? I think he would get huge support from his fans. I cannot believe he did this for nothing for WFMU for so long. It's one thing to just get on the air and wing it, but all the writing he and John did? Un-believable. The rewards wouldn't really need to be that much and I am sure many of his friends in the biz (music and comedy) would come through in a big way. It could simply be for the show to continue and everyone who works on it to draw a salary from it. Radiotopia has huge success with their annual kickstarter. He and John deserve compensation for all the wonderful entertainment they have provided and I don't think anyone would begrudge them that. Just a thought. It has probably been covered elsewhere on the board, and I apologize if I am covering well trod ground. Any other SD FOT's hanging around?

From what I understand (and feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken) he's against it for the same reason he's against the subscription/pay-wall model. It creates a "secret club" mentality to the show and at some point he'd have to cater the show specifically to the people who pay for it or they might lose interest. Then the money goes away. I don't know if that would necessarily happen given that most fans of the show support it no matter what. However, I understand Tom not wanting to depend on that. Would he get a huge amount of money from fans of the show? Without a doubt. But, he has said in a few different interviews (and on the show itself) that advertising on the show seems to be the most painless way to make the show free for everyone who wants to hear it and also keep it sustainable. Who knows if that will remain the case, though. Personally I'd be more than happy to support the show financially, but the fact that it's free for everyone makes it easier to tell people about it. I think at one point after leaving WFMU Tom also said he was looking forward to not having to beg for money every year and feel like the show's existence had to be validated every time.

What about one to get Omar to resurrect the recaps?

Seems reasonable.
