Wife > FOT
« on: September 13, 2007, 05:35:04 PM »
That's an arrow, not a greater than sign.

My wife tolerates pretty much all of my weird dorky obsessions, which are large in number.  She likes comedy, but usually hates comedians, if that makes sense - she has a great sense of humor but finds most comics, especially radio comics, off-putting, obnoxious, mean-spirited, creepy, racist, sexist, or just plain unfunny.  But she wanted to listen to my call the other night, so I played it for her.  And we kept listening all the way through the end of the three hours and then to some of the archives, giggling the whole way through, and what do you know, by the time we went to sleep she was a full-fledged FOT!  Once the semester's over we're going to listen together on Tuesday nights.

Thanks, Tom, for helping my marriage (which was doing just fine, but this certainly can't hurt).  You, sir, are a class act!
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Are you sure that your wife isn't secretly a man? My highly unscientific testing has revealed that wives and special lady friends (even those that are superfans of comedy) will be supportive of, but slightly baffled by, the commitment that is The Best Show. Maybe someday we will discover exactly why that is -- perhaps you can provide insight from making the equation "Wife = FOT" (that's in the sense "wife is FOT" rather than "wife is equal to").

Oh my god, Corazon, you're right.  You've just knocked down the house of cards that is my life.

The Best Show is one of the few things my wife and I disagree on. She'll tolerate listening to Tom take calls, but has such antipathy for the Tom/Jon bits that she's on more than one occasion accused me of listening to them to deliberately provoke her. And this from a Canadienne!

Luckily, MJC, she's usually watching the tube Tuesday nights so we don't come to blows. And I have a 35 minute commute during which I can listen to the podcast in sections.

Oh thank goodness.  For a moment there I thought this thread was going to be about how your wife is of greater significance, and a higher priority, than the FOT.

Is that, like, an actual ASCII lesson?  I find the carrot a bit more elegant, design-wise, and admit that I enjoy the potential ambiguity in the subject heading.  Though thankfully my wife rarely if ever asks me to give anything up for her sake.  The only thing that comes to mind is her not allwing me to do outdoor all-male naked tai chi on video with Radiohole, which was a blessing in...  well, it wasn't even really in disguise.
