This picture makes me really happy
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:17:46 PM »
I just thought I'd share this picture of Leonid Hurwicz, the 90-year-old economist who was one of winners of the Nobel prize in economics. This is him talking on the phone to his brother after he found out he'd won. It totally just warms my heart.

i think because it's nice to see someone achieve so much at 90. So many people have lost so much by that age. I worked at a nursing home for a long time and did an activity group with alzheimers patients every night. Many of my patients were his age and they had already entered stage 3 (which is basically catatonic). So seeing a 90 year old guy winning the nobel prize is pretty cool. he's so happy and with it!

also i love his sweatpants.

I'm with you on that one, Beth. The sight of a man realizing that a reward for a lifetime of work (a LONG lifetime) has come to fruition is heartwarming. Can't think of anything more positive.
