Nathan Rabin (the guy who does "My Year of Flops") just reference the Gorch in a post about the use of nostalgia as a tool in movies: http://www.avclub.com/content/blog/nostalgia_aint_what_it_used_to_be

"For American Graffiti audiences, the film marked a return to a more innocent era, when all good, decent Americans had to fear was catching a chain to the face from The Gorch."

I can't help but think about what a majority of readers, who aren't hip to the Newbridge universe, will make of that sentence...

In the comments section for this article, Rabin actually says:
"I plan to include a whole lot more Scharpling & Wurster references in my writing. Those guys are awesome. I'm just happy to spread the gospel."

I also noticed a familiar phrase in his review of Larry the Cable Guy's Witless Protection:
"This piece is already running too long and I'm getting the "wrap-it-up" hand-signal from Keith, but I wouldn't want to spare you the sight of Larry repeatedly punching an ostensibly dead woman in a comical manner."

Nathan Rabin recently published his memoir, "The Big Rewind".

Here is a quote, relevant to this thread:

My ultimate "why the hell not" interview was with Gene Simmons of Kiss/Gene Simmons Toyota fame.  I have no respect for Gene Simmons as a musician or human being.

I though it was also confirmed here or at the AV Club that he is the "Nate" who inspired Tom to come up with the chorus to "The World is in the Turlet".

I'm pretty sure that was actually Stupornaut, aka Nate from St. Paul.
