Litter Boxes
« on: July 17, 2008, 05:18:17 PM »
I'm about to have a three-kitty household and I REALLY want to change the type of litter I use for them. I can't stand the smell of the clay scoopable stuff (nothing keeps the odor out... and I scoop that thing constantly) and I won't use just regular litter because it sticks to their feet.

I was looking at the Tidy Cats Breeze system but I saw it got mixed reviews. Plus, my one cat is very serious about covering her poop and she wouldn't be able to do that with this system. It's just pellets.

My new landlord is super nervous about us having cats and wants to stop by and do a "stink test" every once and a while. On top of that, I don't want to have to smell their stinkies all the time either....

What do you guys think? What system/litter do you use?

Halp!

I can highly recommend this stuff:

Very little dust, clumps well, flushable (if that is how you do).

It does tend to track a little, the particles are light and stick to the cats feet.  So you have to sweep a bit.  But it doesn't have that nasty silica stink that you get with clay litters.  And if you regularly maintain the box, you will get the longevity out of the litter that will offset the cost (it isn't cheap).

In general though, scoop as soon as the cat dumps out.  This will make your situation much more comfortable, more so than any gadget or system.

we have 7 cats, so what i usually do is just let them all crap in the basement and then move to a different house every 12 months.

nothing ever worked better for us than arm and hammer with a little of the deodorizer sprinkled in the middle. i've tried all the natural and non-clay litters and they all end up stinky and un-scoopable in a couple of days.

Here here. This stuff works like a charm. But yes, put it in a place that you can easily sweep and clean the floor, and give it a hearty scoop every morning.

The smell is more of corn than of clay, so at least it's a little less vomit-inducing.
