The Wackness - official movie site

Tagline: Sometimes it's right to do the wrong things.

Plot: It's the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop. Set against this backdrop, Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) spends his last summer before college selling dope throughout New York City, trading it with his shrink (Ben Kingsley) for therapy, while crushing on his step-daughter (Olivia Thirlby).

it seems that the Telly character from Larry Clark's "Kids" has tired of spreading hiv to virgins, and has stumbled into an quest of self discovery, wherein he'll no doubt learn a few important lessons (imdb lists actor Roy Milton Davis as playing 'Homeless Man" - I can already hear the monologue) about life, love and his place in this buckwild world.

Yo: peep Ben Kingsley hittin'  da chronic, Son!

My 5-year old loves watching Drake & Josh.  It's funny to see Josh slimmed down and playing a weed dealer.

That's Sir Ben Kingsley to you, commoner!

(He's apparently an assh ole when it comes to that, insisting that everyone on set call him "Sir", etc - what a jerk)

Anybody end up seeing this yet? I'm not all that interested in it (although i do like Olivia Thirlby) and the reviews seem mixed. Worth seeing?

i saw it. it's super uneven. parts of the movie you love, and other parts are super weak. hence the mixed reviews. in the end i had fun, but it's a solid 3 stars on the netflix rate-o-meter. there are really bad, convoluted parts to it, but it's tough not to like it.

plus the music is really awesome, and integrated into the movie perfectly.
