Larry The Cable Guy To Tour UK
« on: February 04, 2009, 01:28:30 PM »
From Chortle via AST's Alex J. Thomas:

Hugely successful ‘blue collar’ comic Larry The Cable Guy is to appear in the UK for the first time this summer. The American character comedian will be performing three dates in Britain and one in Ireland in June. A former member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which grossed more than $15 million, and sold more than seven million DVDs, Larry has become a major touring comedian in the States, and has appeared in movies including Cars, where he lent his voice to Mater The Tow Truck. His own DVD Git-R-Done – named after his catchphrase – has sold more than a million copies, and his albums regularly sell more than 500,000 copies. His UK and Ireland tour – with West Virginian comic Reno Collier in support – takes in the Manchester Apollo, Wolverhampton Civic Hall, London’s Hammersmith Apollo and Vicar Street, Dublin.

Instead, I'm just incredulous that this tour is taking place - it's wildly optimistic. He's doing a tour - not just a couple of nights in London, and at prestige venues. But here's the thing - he has absolutely no profile in the UK. At all. His DVDs aren't even available over here! What is he thinking?

The English have a very refined sense of humor. They're gonna LOVE this guy!

I hope his English counterpart will have a spot on the tour.

also, Hammersmith Apollo is not a small venue. That place holds a couple of thousand. It's going to be like that Todd Barry bit - "I did a show in London, afterwards a couple came and said hello, they were from South Carolina"
"Son, there's a thin line between crazed and rabid"

I came into this thread to ask if there was a UK equivalent to Larry the Cable Guy.

And then there it is.

How dare you.  Larry puts on a clean, fart-friendly yet family-friendly show in keeping with traditional American values.

I bet there's no Joe the Chimney Sweep over there either!
