Curmudgeon record shoppe
« on: March 20, 2007, 12:49:39 PM »
So I just learned of the existence of the Curmudgeon record store in Sommervile, NJ. Has anyone been there? I'm usually a Vintage Vinyl man myself (or Princeton Record exchange when I'm feeling adventurous) but I'm always on the lookout for another store to haunt, especially if they have any cheap used LPs.

I have to look pick up the new Ted Leo and the new Ponys (both out today) and I'm trying to resist the urge to walk from my office in midtown to the hellish abyss known as the Virgin Megastore Times Square.
The only Wire I care about is the one that recorded Pink Flag.

Curmudgeon is great! It's quite the drive for me now that they moved, but the last time I went I got a whole lot of stuff for $5 or less (including WIRE'S Chairs Missing lp).

I have not heard the new Ted Leo yet, but the new Ponys album is pretty cool.

I finally made it out there a few weeks ago. It's fairly punk-centric which is probably a good thing for someone with my tastes. I found some neat stuff in the used bin for very reasonable prices: The Kinks "Lola vs the Powerman," a Chris D/Divine Horseman LP, a 9353 LP, a reissue double LP of the Who's "My Generation" and "Magic Bus" and a few other things that escape me at the moment. However, being a punk-centric record store meant that they actually knew their stuff and many new/punk/hardcore/indie LPs were on display for ebay-like prices. I'm not necessarily saying they were overcharging but the stuff they had could probably be found cheaper elsewhere. Case in point, Opal's "Early Recordings" LP was going for $40. It might actually be worth that much but I have the feeling that if I sniff around long enough I may find it at a shop with a less clued in staff for a much cheaper price.

All in all it's not a bad little shop. I will likely head out there again to scour the used LP bins at some point in the future. Plus, there's a very good comic shop just a few doors down. Who knew Sommerville was such a cultural hub?

Just got All the Young Dudes, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricon, and Jones Ltd., and Paul Revere and the Raiders greatest hits for 33 cents each.
Also Arthur for 6 bucks. Great store.

That was No Underbites that responded.  You're an impostor who has stolen all his old posts.
