I never saw it, but it does beg a question that I pray to have answered one day. Why do movies with ridiculously similar subject matter get released back to back like this? Observe and Report is obviously no Paul Blart, but neither was A Bugs Life when compared to Antz. Or Armageddon when compared to Deep Impact. Or Mission to Mars when compared to Red Planet.

It feels so much like manipulation that if it's NOT that, it's just plain weird. Whats up with this? Is it a product of idea theft?

I once heard a radio interview with the director of 'The Wild' (the movie just like Madagascar that was released a year later). He was extremely annoyed and claimed that he had started his film first and Dreamworks got wind of the idea, copied it and released it faster.

So, judging by that, I'd say its idea theft. It happens way too often to be just coincedence.

I've always assumed that the coincidental mirroring of releases had something to do with industrial espionage.  It is a reality in every other industry.

Saw it and liked it. The tone is all over the place but every time things seem to get muddled an amazing scene comes along to clear things up. The end sequence was a little... visually abrasive. Danny McBride's cameo was cool as well. GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

i really loved it.

though after foot fist way and eastbound and down i'm a complete jody hill disciple, so people who arn't really into his thing might not like it.

I don't really know what to say about it, the reviews i've read are pretty right its all over the place tonally and if you listen to the av club movie tal thing about it they bring up some good points about it negative and positive, like it being wildly surreal and fantastic in parts and comparing it in ways to dark films like taxi driver and king of comedy and also weird proto facist fantasies like dirty harry and straw dogs. i think they're right but i also think alot of the comedy comes from the surrealism and absurdity of everything going on in it.

i thought it was glorious.

Aziz and Michael Pena were hilarious.
