King Khan help/recommendations
« on: April 26, 2009, 12:36:19 PM »
Here's a brief history of my relationship with King Khan's music:

1. Heard King Khan & the Shrines tracks on the split LP with the Dirtbombs (Billiards at Nine Thirty). Didn't make much of an impression either way.
2. Picked up the King Khan & BBQ Show What's for Dinner? CD and hated it. More or less wrote the man off after that.
3. Just picked up the King Khan & the Shrines What Is?! LP after liking the song Tom played on this week's show. I LOVE IT.

So, FOT who are more knowledgeable than I, what should be my next move? I've heard he has released quite a few things, so I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm obviously looking for more stuff like What Is?! And should I give the BBQ Show stuff another shot?
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Get Supreme Genius Of... and King Khan & BBQ Show for starters. From there, follow your heart.

I stand by Three Hairs and You're Mine, largely because "Shivers Down My Spine" is cataclysmically great.

first KK+BBQ record is tops - demolishes BBQ-less KK stuff I think.

Agreed. But Supreme Genius is a very good album, as well.

Glad you're loving What Is?!. It's King Khan's masterpiece, as far as I'm concerned.

"What Is?!" is as good as it gets (until the next one), but really anything this guy touches is good. I'm a real big fan of the solo singles he's been putting out in the last 18 months or so like "It's A Lie" and "The Velvet Monobrow", too.  I've also got a soft spot for the "Mr Supernatural" LP. Not garage at all - just (real goofy) stone cold soul.
I'm warning you with peace and love.
