My co-workers saved an old dog from death and abuse
« on: October 27, 2009, 01:57:45 PM »
He was found behind one of our buildings and they fondly named him Stinky Madison, after my fiance. He was half-dead when they found him and is still dearly in need of a good home.

I know I'm always pushing animals on people, but I also know this site is full of animal lovers. The people caring for Stinky would be willing to drive him all over to get him into a good home and out of the shelter/vet.

He's an old dog and despite being fought and abused, will make someone an excellent companion. Please pass along to whomever. Old dogs are often ignored... they need love too...

“Here’s a dog who probably lay down in the gutter thinking ‘this is it.’  Then all these random people come together to save him — just complete strangers. I’m blown away, especially considering the way things are going in shelters now, with a lot of people giving up their pets. Something like this restores your faith in humanity.”

I will give my wife and children accolades; against my better judgement, they adopted a shelter dog. She's 4 year old, uhhh, I think it was "Westie" that they have called Pippin. I have real problems with dog smell in the house; don't judge! But she has won me over, even though she was so badly mistreated that she is literally terrified of everyone she meets. She was apparently kept outside in a dog lot with 5 or 6 other dogs; the owner would throw them out a scoop of food every day or two, and they would fight over it; being the smallest of the bunch, she didn't eat much. She was so filthy and matted when she was seized by the animal control folks that they had to shave her; cleaning her otherwise was out of the question.

I will try to get a picture to post, and tell other endearing stories about her as time passes. Unless she bites me. Then you'll get only angry embittered stories much like the ones I occasionally tell on the show.

Aww, he looks like a good dog that just needs some help getting back on his game. If I was still in Pittsburgh I'd take him in an instant. I think me and the gf are going to go hit up a shelter here in a few weeks and bring something home with us for an early xmas gift, seeing this guy has pretty much sealed the deal in my mind.

I can't help reading stories like this even though they bring up so many negative emotions in me: first anger and hatred towards people who mistreat their animals, then sorrow that I can't give the animal in question the good home they deserve (I've already got a full house. Plus I'm the kind of person who would end up with an overrun house because I want to help everyone), and finally anxiety that nobody will step up and help.

Mostly I just end up feeling misanthropic.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

No one will ever mistreat my future goat.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

My mom brings home dogs and even steals them from crazy hick neighbors when she thinks they don't feed them well or if their collar is too tight.  She easily has ten or eleven dogs.

Ah, once they get to a rescue organization, they always end up somewhere good eventually...
