I've been meaning to post these for a while, but I just bashed this out now. Here are some moments I really enjoyed last year ... I listened to last year a lot on the Ipod, as I had many car trips and airplane trips for work.
-Kelvin Juniper, particularly when he channeled the Cardiff Giant.
-Bernie Taupin, who bet Elton John he'd make more money than him by now.
-Tom whispering "help me" when Mike's attention was elsewhere
-Glaser's appearance, funny all the way through, not just Drac Search, but also Google's voice: "Boolevahd a' Heroes!" & "I would bite SO MANY NECKS!" Also great when Jon's dad called in and screwed up the story about Jon's early comedic prowess. Very sweet.
-Paul & Tom "pranking" John Hodgman in the manner of the Jerky Boys, with the liberal use of the word "sizzlechest". Heck, that whole show is good, since it was right after Billy Bob's meltdown and they get a ton of mileage out of that.
-Martin Short, who was a prince among men, and Tom getting increasingly aggrieved (to borrow Hodgman's word) with the quality of the questions.
-Larry the Perv imagining himself as a cartoon lion, which leads to Tom imagining him as a Unicorn.
-The Dogmo Tribute show, Tom's eloquence & ability to keep it together throughout, and the callers, particularly Officer Tom ranking the best places for cops to get free food. I think this might've also been the show where Frix talks about trying to save the seventy-nine cent Booker T and the MGs record.
-The star studded 6 Hour show, with the Piranha 3D discussion, the musical H-Bomb of "Explosion", I could go on and on and on here. I also remember a certain baseball player driving through the funeral of a silent film star who was so old he literally would play God. First LJ Persky appearance too?
-The Brushman, his horrible, horrible physiognomy, and also his horrible, horrible musical taste.
-Much love is expressed for the Juggalo discussion, but I also want to call out Darren's absurd call that same night- he has to have tokens to use his own toidy, and he was being used to calibrate the suspenders of a 7'3" dude who looks like that dude in the Arcade Fire for his Suspender Whipping league.
-Get Metsmerized with Patton, and the Matt Fraction interview.
-The Meet up Show - everyone's great all the way through.
-The Radio date. Sorry for the discomfort you experienced LfM, but you were pretty dang funny & you made it out the other side.
-"VELLcum TO ze MIKEzhow"
-Urbaniak! I still think of the Bayonne Bubble when I hear that accent. (I need to listen to the audio feed of his recent stint on Pollak's Chat Show)
-Tom's interview with Nardwuar, who mentions Wurster about 50 times. You can FEEL Tom squirming over the radio.
-The very sad Jimmy Webb concert & Tom's impassioned version of "MacArthur Park"
-The Hodgman/Tompkins/Rees in studio show ... many awesome stories. Fave image: Tom driving around in a stormtrooper helmet.
-"For the sake of this conversation ..."
-Andrew WK - great guy.
-Peanut Butter Pete, who for some reason makes me giggle uncontrollably.
-AHndy from BAHth - and his game attempt at a Southern accent
-Jazz Fart. It's funny to me that Jon can bleat "Jazz Fart" incessantly for several minutes without laughing, but can almost never make it through "he passed on".
-That guy from NC who was helping Tom figure out a new shaving plan. His earnest attitude just tickled me.
-Wally's co-host stint - very stroppy.
