Don't remember much.

I noticed my shoe string was a little caught in my chain so I slowed down. Next thing I know I'm on the ground kinda laughing and going "Whoa!" My friend who was in front of me circled back and asked what happened. "I fell. Weird" I said then got up to continue my ride home. I went to wipe sweat off my brow and felt my swollen and scratched forehead. I wasn't even aware I'd hit anything. I've no recollection of hitting my head but apparently I did.

The next morning I woke up looking like Jake LaMotta.

So I bought a helmet.

Lesson learned... lesson learned ...

Sorry 'bout that. You got off lucky, actually.  A friend of mine literally knocked his face sidewards on his head doing a faceplant off his bike. his nose was on the side of his face. crushed his sinus cavities. Brutal. So yea, wear a helmet.

I ended up having to get 9 stitches to the head when I was a kid because of bike-based jackassery. Wear your helmet, and if you have a kid put one of them. I'm getting ready to hand out karate chops in Brooklyn.

Are you guys talking about football helmets?

Otherwise, I don't see how a person's face would be protected in a crash.

Oh - coz I actually hit the left half of my forehead. The blood just decided to pool in my eye sockets where there is more room.  I didn't hit my eyes. I actually researched black eyes because of this stupidity and found out that's apparently normal.

If I'd been wearing the skateboard helmet I ended up buying I probably would've just scraped my cheek or something.

Seriously. I'm a dumb.

EDIT: I realized I abruptly left the link without prefacing. I just want to say that this website is really neat.

I think a football helmet would earn you a wider berth on the street and protect your face.

"Just a reminder to tie your shoelaces" would have been a better title for this thread.
