An interesting if not incredibly detailed look at weirdo governmental shenangians promoting/subsidizing KISS, Kid Rock, Paul McCartney, etc., shows in Halifax, NS:

My home town doin' me proud.

One of the frustrating things about being a music fan in Halifax when I was a teenager/twentysomething in the the 90s was that very few mid-level or larger bands ever made it there since it's a 13 hour drive from Montreal or Boston (a double whammy since even if you're willing to take a road trip to see a band, it's a two day round trip slog at best). So despite the fact that the permanent population is on the order of half a million and there are at least 25,000 college students in town between September and April, all we got was the occasional shitty mega show like this article describes, and a half-dozen good local bands you end up seeing dozens of times each.
