I had too many chores to do to get anything good at the record store by my house. But I did get to see Jesse Malin (of D Generation and 80s hardcore band Heart Attack) BRING IT during an in-store set. It was really great. He ended by doing some covers, including "Death Or Glory" that had the whole crowd singing along, including parents with little kids.

The Spinto Band were the headlining act. I don't know how much cachet they have outside of the Delaware Valley but they're very good. They have a little bit of an REM/Talking Heads/random indie pop twee in them. They're releasing a new album in a few weeks and the songs were all very good.

I did pick up Big Star's Radio City on the way out. I don't have it on vinyl.

None of this year's releases really intrigued me, TBH. I did, however, manage to pick up a Rolling Stones' Greatest Hits LP for $6.00.

I failed to mention that I also got this:

This was by far the best RSD 2012 release, and I haven't seen any chatter about it anywhere! Truly sickening!  Michael Sniper and the rest of the Captured Tracks foot soldiers have delivered a glorious box. (Shot Forth ... and The Buried Life are available separately.)

I heard that Jack White released a 7" filled with Blue Raspberry Faygo.  Is that true?

I didn't make it to RSD but Darren from work (aka Husband of the Puppetress) told me Amoeba had a copy of my long-time want, Steve Walsh's Schemer Dreamer! So I went on Sunday and picked it up for $1.99. It's going in a frame on my wall because it's the best record cover ever.

Is that the Steve Walsh that's vocalist for Kansas?

Yeah, Steve Walsh from Kansas! Having only heard "Carry On" and "Dust in the Wind" on the radio for  a million years I had never heard that Steve Walsh was a total fucking maniac. You owe it to yourself to watch this video of Steve with Kansas totally destroying Carry On.

1. Short shorts/No shirt
2. Knee high socks
3. High kicks
4. KEYBOARD HANDSTAND
5. bongo fury

The beardo in a tuxedo is just icing on the cake at that point.

Wow!

How coked-up do you think he was? Also, were he and The Ultimate Warrior separated at birth?

Thank for sharing that. Now my quest for that album begins.

Answer: very coked.

Here is one of my favorite Steve Walsh quotes, in response to Kansas "selling out":

"Once upon a time we were young. We made records, and we were good. We had each other, and very little else. Luck played it's fickle roll by annointing us with fame and fortune, and we loved it. BUT, the music that Kerry wrote was from his heart, and not about the money, and is to this day-timeless. Over the years, we seemed like we went out of our way to confuse our loyal fans, and truly some if not most of our fans did wander away. Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky, but we soldiered on with the fans that are still very loyal and caring. As our record sales dwindled, we were forced to take riskier gigs, and make recordings in a new and more economical way, because we had to. What was once all about KANSAS, is now about our individual lives, and the lives of our families. There's no turning back to the days when we headlined huge concert arenas and had elaborate light shows. We still do the best we can, and I happen to think we're still pretty good. But the fact remains, that our lives have changed. The record business has changed. And we now are forced to do things differently-because at 55 years old, we are an albatross. So hold this Subaru commercial against us if you must, but know that at some point in everyone's life, it has to be about a lot more than personal integrity and pride, and the money we earn from the sale of our beloved "Dust", will buy one more roll of toilet paper that will wipe the asses of the ones we love."

Well, my mail-ordered copy of the Unrest 7" box arrived today, and it's really a beautifully packaged set. Mark Robinson even included a hand-written thank you note.

Still haven't snagged a copy of the St. Vincent 7" I was wanting. It looks like most of the Ebay auctions are starting at $25. Eh, might just chalk that one up as a loss.

I added JEFF The Brotherhood's "Upstairs At United" and the Tomahawk boxed set to my haul today. The shop I go to didn't get the Tomahawk set in until Thursday. It was only $40, too. Not bad for three 12" LPs. The shop has leftovers on some of the RSD releases. Mostly stuff by acts I've never heard of.

@danner: Wait a couple of months and you can probably find that St. Vincent 7" on eBay for significantly less than what it's going for now.

I'm seeing her live in a few weeks, so I'm holding out some hope that maybe she'll have a copy or two at her merch table.
