NTS, ResonanceFM, RinseFm...

These are some internet (or started as internet) radio stations that also attempt to provide a wide range of programming, or at least programming that a listener may not find elsewhere.

Does anyone listen to these or other stations?

Anything to recommend?

Tangentially, I noticed that some of the shows are freely available for download or podcast.  Is that because they are, I think, UK-based (and thus not subject to the same legal restrictions as WFMU - actually, The Law why WFMU's music shows are not podcast, right?)

I don't listen to a ton of internet-radio, however, I have heard that CHIRP (I think it stands for Chicago Independent Radio Project or something) out of Chicago is pretty good.

These are not eclectic in the WFMU sense, but they fill a need for me: The SomaFM stations offer a fair amount of negligible electronica and kitschily new-age stuff, but DroneZone and Doomed, and sometimes Digitalis and Lush, are reliable sources of good wallpaper music for when I'm working and need something in the ambient register: http://somafm.com/

Jonny Trunk's show on Resonance is my favorite.  They only podcast one or two shows per month though.

I don't know the legal subtleties of podcasting music, but I know Resonance purchased some type of license.

Also it's funny the station doesn't have an in-studio phone.

Another to add - Grow Radio.  They seem to podcast every show they have:

I may be delusional but I think some long-ago guest has or had a show on this station ... ???  (doing some digging, I may be thinking of Andrew Sandoval (the curator of the Where the Action Is compilation who has a show on a completely different station - http://www.luxuriamusic.com/ )

They describe themselves thusly:

Grow Radio :

– is a listener-supported Florida non-profit company.
– is located in beautiful Gainesville, Florida …go Gators!
– is produced by volunteers
– is a community Internet radio station
– is named so because we intend to grow community radio.
– plays music that you won’t hear on local terrestrial radio stations.
– plays original local music.
– is awesome.
