The references to Smash Mouth's chart busting hit 'All Star' reminded me of a couple of incongruous moments of pop history that I'm sure many of you will share.
The lyrics of the song go '..she was looking kinda dumb, with a finger and a thumb, in the shape of an 'L' on her forehead..'
On the video as he sings these lines he passes two kids in football kits (or as you Americans call them 'Roundball Kercheifs') and yet it is THE BOY who raises his finger and a thumb in the shape of an 'L' on HIS forehead.
Come on! How did this slip through the rigorous fact checking dept at Smash Mouth towers? Hadn't the video makers listened to the song?
Another one that STILL annoys me, in 1987 T'Pau released their album 'Bridge of Souls'. The sleeve contained the lyrics to the songs which didn't match the actual lyrics to any of the songs. It was as if whoever wrote them down did so as the song was being played and he only had one shot at it. Drove me crackers it did.
