Just replaced an iPhone 4s with a Moto X what are the good apps I am desirous of the good apps.

Overall recommendations welcome. Also looking specifically for a twitter client (iOS: Tweetbot), podcasts (iOS: Downcast), plain text editor that syncs with Dropbox (iOS: Listacular), weather, construction calculator, measuring tool with a level and stuff, a units converter.

I use Weatherbug for weather info. I recommend the TuneIn Radio app as a backup to the WFMU app. I haven't used the new FMU Android app very much. The old one would freeze after one or two minutes of streaming which is what led to my discovery of TuneIn.

Thanks for replying. I figured out how to add a website to the home screen, so I am using http://forecast.io for weather as I do on my computer.

I'm trying out Pocketcasts for podcasting and Falcon Pro for Twitter right now.

I use Doggcatcher for podcasts and it's awesome. I like FalconPro for twitter but I'm not a heavy user so I don't know how great it is.

I use both iOS and Android since I'm a judge nerd, and I think that Pocket Casts is the best podcast app for both platforms.

Falcon Pro is still the best Android Twitter client but you need to do some crazy shit (registering for a Twitter API key, etc) to get it to work, since Falcon Pro ran out of Twitter auth tokens.  Plume is also a decent choice.

Thanks, gang.

Y/N, I'm surprised you find Pocket Casts superior to Downcast on iOS. (BTW, I'm using this method to use Pocket Casts on my laptop and sync with my phone.) I did manage to jump through those hoops to get Falcon Pro working for Twitter. I would have liked to have tried Carbon as well, but in any case I doubt anything comes close to Tweetbot.

I found this company that has a bunch of conversion and utility apps so I will give them a try and report back if anyone else is interested. I'm also going to give Draft a shot for a plaintext editor. Maybe just need to bite the bullet and move that kinda thing over to Evernote.

Any good apps/widgets in general I should check out? I really like this phone so far btw.

I am not totally sure why I ended up switching to Pocket Casts.  (I went from Instacast -> Downcast -> Pocket Casts).  Cross platform sync was probably the main thing; I was using a Nexus 4 for a while and still have a Nexus 7, and the syncing even between iOS devices seemed to work better.  I also find the interface to be cleaner.

That Bluestacks thing is bananas.

The android subreddit usually has good recommendations.  Honestly I don't use very many apps on my phone--I tend to just use phones for taking pictures, quick capture of notes, listing to media, maps, weather, and yelp.  I do more reading, writing and stuff on tablets (and real computers).

Android apps I have found to be excellent include:  Draft (dropbox text editor), Chronus or Dashclock (tied, quick info widgets), Nintendo emulators, Instapaper, Jota+ (text editor for local files), MX Player (media), Press (for Feedly), TeslaLED (flashlight), and Shuttle music player.

Just a quickie update. I'm using Talon for Twitter; I think it's very good. I have not found an adequate replacement for iOS's Listacular. I suggest checking out Link Bubble. All-in-all, I am very satisfied with the Moto X (aside from the camera) and Android in general.  I am giving the Aviate launcher a test-run. I have one invite left if anyone is interested.

Godbless.

Pocket Casts was SO fantastic, but it doesn't support login credentials for podcasts that require them. I will switch back the minute they add this feature
