Good ol' Billy.

“Sometimes, it’s just pushing it a little too far for my taste and I’m not going to reveal to you which ones they are.”

“I hope people don’t abuse it and shove it in our face… to the point where it feels like an every day kind of thing.”

Wow. What an all-time creep. This is worse than a DUI Rumor. My favorite part is that it was ultimately about him and how it was cool back when he did it, but now it's not.

So, how many levels of gay jokes or gay love scenes on TV?

I count:
* Wink, wink, nudge, nudge no we're not going to acknowledge it
* We are going to acknowledge it but it's a big deal and a label that is a dramatic confession
* It's just normal
* Gay people should have gratuitous eye candy sex scenes same as straight people have had on HBO Showtime and Cinemax for forever

Jody on Soap was a "It's just normal" gay character at a time when other shows were only doing "wink,wink,nudge nudge is Liberace oh no he can't be because he's so nice..."  So it would seem like Billy Crystal thinks that gay characters should just be normal and not the level of gratuitous titllation enjoyed by straight softcore porn viewers.  I wonder if he's seen the "Husbands" web serial.

Surely he just hasn't thought it out.
Looking for keyboard lute bandmates in Lord of the Rings Online to play songs from Spaced Out (Shatner and Nimoy) and any other greatest hits.  Find Percabald on Brandywine server most days 9-12 US cst, O to friend, IM to IM.  30 min maybe to new hobbit minstrel with lute.

“I hope people don’t abuse it and shove it in our face… to the point where it feels like an every day kind of thing.”

I reckon that this is the crux of it.  he must feel as if his "tough" portrayal of a gay character is somehow being cheapened by the fact that Amurrrica is now comfortable enough with itself that the depiction of gay people actually being gay every day, and not on again/off again, like he had to (so very very bravely) do.

it's likely that this character flaw within him lies much deeper.  I supose that had he been the guy inside C3P0 we would have heard this all years ago when I, Robot came out (and by come out, I mean, released; you can relax, Billy).
