Did Spike have depth from the start? I would argue that he didn't until Tom persisted with questions and plumbed that dark, disquieting depth. Time, plus Tom's efforts, provided the depth.

I don't think there's much else to Avalanche Bob besides snowboard yodels and a devotion to Alex Jones.  By comparison, Spike has (god help me) an interesting personality and a rapport with Tom that makes for good radio.

I was somewhat down on Avalanche Bob after his prior call, but I feel like he redeemed himself in a major way by going out and getting his own Charley Morgan in the form of Kevin Kline's son.
