Well, that's done. I was utterly exhausted yesterday evening, to the point where I worried that I might doze off during the performance, but even so, come the time, I dutifully hauled myself to the school and settled myself in one of the very uncomfortable chairs in the "cafetorium" that doubles as Lubec's theater. The play lasted THREE PLUS HOURS!!!!! Luckily, it was chilly, so I didn't drop off. Unfortunately, however, the production was ever so slightly more competent than others I've seen here, which made it much less fun than it otherwise would have been. Afterward, I retired to the bar, along with the properties manager and the stage manager for a post mortem. The first, who is a good friend of mine (whose musical none of you never got around to listening to, which is probably just as well), has a sense of proportion, but the second (who is my crazy neighbor) took the whole business very, very seriously, and it was at times difficult preventing myself from exclaiming impatiently, "Jesus Christ, Lucy, it was just a dopey little production in a town the size of a teacup--stop talking about it as though it was anything more than a lark!" I forbore, however, and let her chatter on to her heart's content, because anything else would have been too unkind. Got home at around 1:15 to find that the boxer had destroyed one of my couch cushions and managed to deposit three puddles of piss and four slabs of shit (separation anxiety = no fun). After the lengthy cleanup, I of course had to stay awake for a while, only retiring at 4. I suspect I will not be too lively today.
Oh well. It could've been worse.
