Tom's least favorite R.E.M. drum sound
« on: June 28, 2017, 07:56:05 AM »
I think this is the second time Tom has alluded to being let down by R.E.M.'s adopting a certain drum sound. Wondering which one he means. Does he mean when the drums got louder in the mix after "Fables of the Reconstruction?" Or the drum track stuff after Bill Berry left?

Well I am sure everybody has an opinion about REM's drum sound. For me the super punchy compressed snare on Document ruined the whole album.

Interesting. I am not up on my drum mixing. But is the idea that it was the late-80s and they tried to make it sound like the drums from Def Leppard and Ratt?
