I take back any benign thing I ever said about Captain Jack.
Me too. It's not the fish, which I could definitely see the "crossing the line" humor in if I could take it as just some over-the-top prank, so much as the tone of his voice in the previous week's rant. That was weird. How freaked out he was that his era of common caller comfort seems to have passed on a bit was frightening. Yeah, there hasn't been much Petey, Sevie Blue, Officer Tom, or Purple Shirt recently, but first of all, as Tom said, what is HE supposed to do about it, call them? Secondly, it's actually been less than a year since the whole "Tall Bike" thing with Purple Shirt, OT just called in a few weeks ago from the patrol car, and Petey does actually pop his head in every now and then, but _______'s maniacal tear about Tom forgetting all the "little people," I think, belies exactly the kind of insecurity that can actually turn to lashing out in frightening ways.
Sorry for the armchair psychoanalysis, and I'm probably making too much of it, but jeez - the guy has spent YEARS doing this tired schitck that's only raison d'etre, as far as I can see, is to be a sarcastic spoiler. In his mind, he sees himself as some integral part of the show, I guess, but... come on, guy...
