My intro to The Best Show was finding a used copy of the original Rot, Rock & Rule CD in 2002 or so, after reading about it here and there. I knew folks who were clued in to the Best Show, but they were sorta secretive about it, like it was an elite club or something (or something that went without saying). Not being net-savvy, it was a year or so before I figured out I could listen every Tuesday on my computer AND survive various office jobs by earphoning the archives, maybe coming off like a goof trying not to laugh too hard, I probably looked like I was always trying to stop a sneeze. I had no idea something could be so funny these days. My girlfriend refers to it as "that weird show you're obsessed with". After finding out Tom and Jon sorta bonded over Chris Elliott I knew it was written on the stars. The big time laffs, that is. Also the Peter Cook appreciation. When Tom dropped out for a bit with what turned out to be kidneystones, I was genuinely concerned! I've never felt that way over somone (who I didn't personally know) who was a radio/TV/band personality what-have-you. My girlfriend said I didn't want to lose a friend, pointing at my FOT card in my office. Watch the fizzy drinks Tom! I hope to make it to a post-show party soon!
