Tom Scharpling, Master of Technology

Wow.

What a heady experience. I started listening to the archive of last night's show, and I hear my own voice in the theme song!  If that's not enough (and boy, was my son pumped,) it finally dawns on me what's happened. The lab boys down at Consolidated Cardboard have perfected some device that allows everyone listening to the show to hear their own name in the theme song! (This, after my son Andy points out "Why would YOU be in there?") It somehow senses who is listening, and inserts an mp3 individualized for that listener. I don't know how it works, probably some netherworldly combination of cutting edge radio engineering and Dr Strange-style magic, but it's dang impressive.

Next week my son will probably call in asking if he can be in the theme song; I expect, almost need for Tom to cut him off with a curt but polite "no" and hang up.

I am humbled and grateful to be a very small part. Big thank yous to anyone involved. Except Sarah. She hates Rocky Road, and the diabetics who love it.

Ha ha, the joke's on you, Dave!  I wasn't in any way involved in this tribute to your supercaller status, so being denied a thank you just rolls right off my back.  So there.

I must quibble, though:  I never said I hated Rocky Road (I've never tried it, in fact, because of the marshmallows).  It's you diabetics that irk me, waving my future in front of me the way you do.

Sarah,

Do you hate marshmallows or are you a veggie.

Someone once gave me veggie marshmallows and I made rice crispy squares, oh how i have missed them.

I am an eater of meat (and other things); I just don't care for marshmallows.  The thought of them in ice cream makes me sad.  I don't like Rice Krispies squares, either.  Or Fluff.

Mourn no longer, Richard:  here's a recipe for gelatin-free marshmallows:

 INGREDIENTS

    * 3 cups white sugar
    * 1/4 cup corn syrup
    * 1/4 teaspoon salt
    * 3/4 cup water
    * 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    * 1 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting

DIRECTIONS

   1. Generously coat a 9x13 dish with cooking spray.
   2. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, salt and water. Heat to between 234 and 240 degrees F (112 to 116 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from the water and placed on a flat surface. Remove from heat and beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form, 10 to 12 minutes. Stir in vanilla. Pour into prepared pan.
   3. Chill in refrigerator 8 hours or overnight. To cut, loosen edges with a knife. Dust surface with confectioners' sugar, and turn out onto a waxed paper lined surface. Dust with confectioners' sugar again and cut with a knife.

Dave,

I was probably just as excited when I heard your name in the intro!  It's almost as though your SuperCaller status is now carved in stone or like one of those monuments of past players at Yankee Stadium.

Congratulations Mr. Supercaller.  I couldn't think of a better person to replace, well, you know who...

You forget the Friends of Tom Hall of Fame, which hasn't had an inductee in ages.

speaking of the Hall in Fame, these are the only people I remember being in it:

Megan
Purple Shirt
Officer Tom
Petey

I know there's more, but I can't remember.  But I don't think Omar is in it, is he?  Cause he should.

Also,
Gord and Chris (maybe they're in it...)
Stan
Jason (is he in it?)
A.P. Mike
A.P. Matt
the first A.P. (I'm sorry I can't remember his name off the top of my head...)
Also, the Leader (just kidding)
and Laura From Friendster (also kidding)
not to mention Teddy Rock Star (not kidding)

Gord and Chris were the first people in it.  I listened to the archive yesterday.

I'm pretty sure Tom has said on one or more occasion that Jason is a Hall of Famer. I THINK!

 JJ, your first four picks are correct, as well as Gord and Chris, possibly the first two inductees. As for me, no. I was nominated by Sarah, clearly the voice of reason on this board, when I bought software to stream the show for the chatters when WFMU's servers took a dump. Tom thanked me but politely declined. AP Matt is not in the hall. I'm not sure about AP Mike (I vote yes even though I know it doesn't count) and I think the first AP was named Dave who moved to Canada. Eventually we all will. See you there.

Per the FOTpedia (I have about 2,300 entries/updates to do for that if it ever becomes functional again), here is the list:

Petey

Gord

Chris from Toronto

Officer Tom

Jason

Purple Shirt

Megan Murphy

In the recap for the 4/4/06 show, I tried to start a Ted for Best Show HOF campaign, but it didn't gain any traction:

"I also think it's time to launch a HOF campaign for Mr. Ted Leo. My only reservation is that I saw some pics from SXSW and detected an unmistakable "steroidal fury", suggesting that Mr. Leo is juicing with performance-enhancing drugs in an effort to retain a competitive edge over younger musicians and potential battle rap challengers. These rumors have swirled around for a few years in various Intronet message forums, and I just saw a sample chapter from Under the Sheets, a meticulously researched tome that claims to have evidence that Ted used something known as "The Creem" while recording parts of Hearts Of Oak and upped his program for Shake The Sheets due to jealously over the critical and commercial successes of Franz Ferdinand, Wilco, Arcade Fire, and Kanye West. Since Lookout and Touch & Go had no extant policies forbidding these substances at the time, the RIAA has assembled a commission comprised of Gerard Cosloy, Henry Rollins, Kurt Rambis, renowned nutritionist Udo Erasmus, and Tom Delay to investigate the matter and quell growing public outcry. Many are calling for an asterisk to be included in past Pazz & Jop poll rankings. Pitchfork and other media outlets have termed the investigation a "witch hunt" solely targeting Mr. Leo, but it should be noted that the commission's scope also includes Spoon's Britt Daniel, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner, and Brendan Benson, who unveiled his new body -- and some muscular leads -- at a recent The Raconteurs gig. I still say that Ted is worthy of the HOF, which already contains the controversial Officer Tom. Ted's Best Show, semi-hirsute body of work speaks for itself, and his 2006 contributions have been very impressive -- his genre-jumping defeat of MC Steinberg, rescuing the Build A Movie Game from potential decommission a few weeks ago, and now his smooth chest AITOOOE [Am I The Only One On Earth] uneasiness. Vote for Ted."
