L.A. FOT Meet-Up
« on: September 26, 2007, 02:28:09 AM »
So when and how and where do you want to do this?  I can't meet up on a Tuesday until November, unfortunately.  I feel like it makes the most sense to just go to some UCB show or something together.  Or maybe go somewhere and drink.  But organizing a listening party at a bar is probably out of the range of possibility, since, unlike the Brass Monkey, wherever we meet will not be 3 blocks, but 3,000 miles from where WFMU is broadcasting. Also, to hang out and listen at the same time would involve starting to hang out exactly at 5 on a Tuesday, which is entirely out of the question for me.

I'm still pretty new to the area, anyone know any cool spots?

FOT Black Lips fans should go to the show at echoplex in October

I'm not a fan of the Echoplex at all, but I'll probably still go.

What kind of cool spots?  Bars, restaurants, clubs, all of the above?

Echoplex? Isn't that how Tom got his radio gig?

Edit:
HOW SILLY OF ME! I was thinking of "ectoplasm".

Have any of you been to Warszawa in Santa Monica?  It has a cool backyard patio area, and you can bring dvds or cds to play on their PA system outside.  That might be a nice place!

I don't know, Susannah, Santa Monica sounds pretty weird to me with their bring-your-own-cd bars and their bathroom attendants.  On the other hand, Echoplex is 2 blocks from my house.  I'm not really a big fan of that establishment, for grouchy neighborhood-guy reasons, but I'm a fan of the east side in general.  Still, I realize, that is a drag for west-siders.  Should we meet up in the middle?  Problem is: Hollywood is an awful, awful place.  I feel like someone will just have to come up with something and force everyone else to get into it.

Footsy's in Eagle Rock anyone?  Good jukebox, rarely crowded.

I haven't really been out anywhere in Hollywood or the east side yet, to be honest, on account of my crippling fear of the freeway.  But I'd be willing to chance it if that's what you really want!

The food at Warszawa is good, though. I'm just sayin', is all.

Iunno, I'm just lazy.  And I enjoy ribbing Santa Monica, nothing personal! And nothing even serious.  I'm just jealous cause you have the ocean and I have the dried up L.A. River.

poquito mas is somewhere in the middle of us east siders and susannah.

i'm just sayin'......

as far as dates are concerned. a friend's birthday is the 3rd so i can't do that, and i was planning on trying to hit up the jesu instore at amoeba on the 5th as well as the wolves in the throne room show at some place i've never heard of. so if you're looking in the immediate future, these are two dates that do not work for me. everything else is fair game.

ps - i was about to start this as a topic. i'm glad john's got more initiative than i do.

No show tonight.

I must confess I've never been to Poquito Mas, despite Tom's urging.  Maybe now is the time!

Susannah and I were talking about all this on the phone yesterday.  I was thinking maybe we should do a UCB show or something, but Poquito Mas could win out just because it would prove Solidarnos with Tom.

I basically can't do anything until Wednesday of next week.

I enjoy the UCB.  Which show?  If CDR is out, maybe a Match Game?  Provided PFT is a panelist, of course.

But Then in November we can all enjoy the LA FOT Pain-Up that will be my Improv 101 class show at UCB!
