Mr. Brooks
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:40:43 AM »

Now available on dvd!

Tom was right.  This is like an absurd "Build-a-Movie Game" idea come to life.  Good for some chuckles.

I wonder how it compares to that show Dexter?

speaking of, I need to finish Dexter.  I got to ep 8 and got relocated so I haven't gotten a chance to finish it.

This movie looked interesting.
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

I watched Mr Brooks a couple of weeks ago. So awful on so many levels. Build-a-movie indeed.

Dexter is very good, at least the first season - I think they're stretching it now, four eps into the second.

i can't get into dexter. i'm not usually put off by black comedy, but i watched the first four episodes and they made me feel icky inside. i couldn't sleep afterward.

plus i can't see that actress who plays his girlfriend as anyone other than darla from buffy.

maybe i should give it another chance and watch it while i have company?

If they'd keep Dexter limited to 2 (well-constructed, meaningful) seasons, ala The UK Office, it'd be perfect for me. I don't want to look that deeply into a story that dark for more than about 12 episodes. After a while, it just feels like wallowing in gore & violence, rather than trying to understand it.

i recommend this.  a friend brought season 2 over and a group of us watched it.  it works especially well in this atmosphere- if something was ridiculous, i'd blurt it out.  everyone had a good laugh.

Mr. Brooks, on May 13th, will be discussed in the AV Club's New Cult Canon.  What are the chances TheBestShow is mentioned in the writeup?  ;D

Thoughts on Season 4 of Dexter, 2007 Martin?

Haven't seen it! Everybody tells me S4 was incredible, but I bolted a couple of episodes into S3.

Is season 3 the one with Jimmy Smits?  If so, I did the same.

I think the show is pretty consistent. So if you get tired of it after a season or two, I wouldn't bother with any more of it. I love it all.

I will say, season 2 is weak. And the beginning of Season 3 takes a while to get going. But once Smits and Dexter start hanging out I was in. And season 4 from the get go was great. Only got better when you saw Lithgow and Hall going at it.
