First, I'd like to apologize for my normally decent cell phone crapping out on me last night. I've used that cell phone for every BS call I've made, but clearly it decided it was done with me on that particular call.
Also, I wanted to clarify my question a little bit since I went to garbled gibberish before I could finish:
I wasn't actually going to talk about the difference in style between SNL and Human Giant. What I was going to say was that, in addition to those two shows, and a few that HBO have "in the hopper", there isn't much happening with sketch comedy on TV. (I'm not even counting MadTV because it sucks)
Did anyone think [or hope] like me, that maybe MTV picking up a show like Human Giant might mark a comeback for sketch comedy -- a-la the days when we saw Mr. Show, The State and Kids in the Hall running strong for most of a decade?
I've just been waiting for MTV to go back to some of the comedy it always did, and for HBO to pick up another brilliant sketch show (which it hasn't done since Mr. Show) but it hasn't happened yet. When I saw how much attention MTV was giving Human Giant, I REALLY thought we might see a turn in the trend that only gives younger viewers idiots like Dane Cook and Larry the Cable Guy to laugh at.
BUt nothing's really changed yet... I was hoping Fred might have some behind-the-scenes news or maybe just a "feeling" that Sketch Comedy, or at least GOOD Comedy on TV might be making a stronger comeback.
Not saying there isn't a lot of good stuff out there, but MTV and HBO have fallen far behind on their idea of what's funny. (LCK and Human Giant excluded) I'm a TV lover. Not a whiner.
I'm tired. Sorry if this makes no sense...
