The Chat and Board inquiries...
« on: September 09, 2006, 02:02:59 AM »
Just a question...does the server for the board and chat run on rodents on a wheel running a generator? Does it involve burning molasses? Please let us return to the old chat. I miss Hubbard (who can't access the new chat at work).

While there certainly are a few things I need to tweak on this board (that I have not yet done due to me not being unemployed) the fault this board is running so slow and has been occasionally offline actually lies with the server.

Look at http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/

There's currently nothing I can do. I cannot log in to dreamhost or even log in as an admin on this board to move this topic to its appropriate section. Going back to the old board would solve nothing and would leave us open to an avalanche of spam.

As for the chat, I'm truly sorry that Hubbard and Cleef can no longer access it but this has to do with the firewalls at their respective workplaces. You really can't expect the progress of this site to be impeded or dictated by the security policies of two people's workplaces.
The old chat was shite, complete and utter shite. I deleted it, there is no going back.
Forward ever, backward never.

That said, sigmachat released a beta of their new software that was supposed to be more readily accessible from behind firewalls, it didn't help Cleef, and Hubbard did not reply but I will still do all i can to help them both gain access to the chat.
No FOT left behind.

http://beta0.sigmachat.com/client/sc.php?id=147453 That's the link to the beta, if it works for hubbard or anyone who isn't able to access the chat I will change the chat to that one until the final version is released.
(edit)I just read up on it and apparently firewall-proof access is not yet complete but should be for the final release.
(edit2)I just read more, V.8 when released will use http tunneling to bypass corporate firewalls.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP-Tunnel
read about it there plus there are a couple of links to free programs you can install and run on your work machine which should allow you to access the chat. Of course I can't vouch for them but if Cleef and Hubbard want to try them out, or if Stan wants to spend some of his interminal amount of spare time, they are there.

As for the rest of the site, i do have big BIG plans but I'm a little busy right now working and planning a big move. I hope do get some stuff done on here before the end of the year but please bear with me, the awesome approacheth.

Many thanks for your efforts, Jason. I'm employed again, so, although I might be a bit terse I'll finally pay off my pledge to the station.
