Wow - I missed quite a hoe-down here yesterday, huh?
People - I'm sorry if I contributed to the contentiousness of this thread, but it's an example of why I was saying I'm tired of talking about it, and maybe that's irresponsible and avoidance on my part, but I just feel like it's not the right forum for something that gets so emotional for a lot of people - it's really hard to have a productive conversation about this that's not done face to face, and it's not like "vegan" was just invented yesterday, so I (and others, apparently) get touchy about the "how do you get your nutrients" and "don't you have cravings" questions, but at the end of the day, it's just ideological fatigue (with more than just "vegan issues") and thus, ultimately, laziness, I guess, that keeps me from giving a truly thorough answer here.  So sue me - I'm lazy like everybody else.
But give Colin a break for these same reasons, please - it's 2007 and we still get looked at like freaks even by our closest friends sometimes, so...
Now write me a receipt so I can tip on outta here...

Yeah, it gets boring having to explain the same thing over and over again.  I, for example, get tired of telling the story of why/how I ended up here.  More recently, endlessly repeating the tragic tale of my finger got very tedious very fast.

I think a problem here, too, is that vegans make meat eaters feel a little defensive, and meat eaters do the same to vegans, so emotions run high very quickly.  It's a grand illustration of how fucking difficult it is for people to get along and how miraculous it is that the human race hasn't killed itself off yet.

Hey, my sister told me yesterday that apparently there's a plan afoot to make the Monday after Thanksgiving the Internet shopping equivalent of Black Friday.  Doesn't that just warm the cockles?

P.S.  Je rougis, TL.

A warning to any vegans, vegetarians, and anyone with functioning tastebuds : I just opened a bag of Grandma Utz's Handcooked Potato Chips that someone here had purchased.  I ate one chip and said hmm, this tastes like s-hit.  Check the ingredients and it sez - cooked in lard.  cooked in lard.  lard.  cooked in.   who cooks with lard?  the taste lingers on even after a strong ginger beer rinsing.  I feel ill.

I know what you Vegans are saying. I can't tell you how many times I have had to answer the question "How did you get so fat?" I mean, if you're not interested in being as fat as me, why should I share my strategies?

There are many BSB (Best Show Bit) references to GG Allin, here is documentation.

We should compare notes.  And just you wait:  in a little while I'm going to have a food report that will knock your socks off.

What I'm really interesting in are your strategies for looking like George Saunders in my mind's eye.  Do tell!
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Here's that food report I promised.  I quite like the hilarious inappropriateness of posting it in this thread.  No offense intended, TL, Colin, Sploops, et al.

Here 'tis:  Today, finding myself with some ganache on hand, I carried out the grand experiment of making a grilled bacon-almond butter-chocolate sandwich.  Sorry to report that it was nothing special.  Oh well, what's a little artery clogging in the name of food science?

Whatever, Dave.  I didn't start this conversation and I've apologized and given my reasons for not really getting into it, but going with your own example here, you don't owe anyone an answer to that question or an explanation of your strategies, nor should people feel they have the right to expect one.  The same applies to the actual situation at hand.
