I am mostly fully-recovered from my Jerky Boys-related depression... it was not entirely my decision to see the movie in theaters, since I recall not actually being the primary decision-maker in this particular moviegoing party. I don't even remember who I saw it with, only that it was with a group of people and everyone was kind of nonplussed after the whole thing ended.
I was right there with you, sizzlechest. In spirit, anyway.
Get this: the group I went with decided to
pre-purchase tickets on opening day in NYC. So eager were we to have a gander at the Boys of Jerky that we didn't want to chance a sold out show. I was not the ringleader, but certainly a more than willing particpant.
We needn't have been so prepared -- there weren't many people in the theater. Afterwards, when everyone was lamenting the horrible lameness we had just paid witness to, I feebly attempted to offer some constructive criticism, like "That kind of plot, with two goofs outwitting the mob, it can work; they just needed to tighten things up and, you know, write it better..." I believe the others thought a little less of me for offering any remotely defending words for something that embarrassingly bad.
I remember another of us commented, "That Johnny guy has a little charisma, at least; but the other guy looked like he didn't want to be in the movie." Very true.
So anyway dat ting was a bad misfire. They made a jerky out of me. Enjoy your yacht, Alan Arkin.
