I listen to the podcast on a milk crate.
« on: February 10, 2008, 01:53:17 PM »
I know orange crates are all the rage among most listeners, but I prefer the smaller milk crate.  It's light, compact, and does the job nicely.  While listening at work (grocery industry), I was literally sitting on one when Tom and Paul F. Tompkins were discussing their use among the audience.  I don't know if what I felt was pride exactly, but it was pretty funny if nothing else..

Orange crates suffer from a serious drawback: being made of wood, they can give one splinters.

A throw pillow takes care of that, Sploops.  Or a coat or the like.

Personally, I like the spring in a milk crate; orange crates are so unyielding.

Back in the 60's, Yoko Ono decorated her whole Soho loft space with orange crates she collected on the street.  She set one down as a coffee / eating table then arranged others around, which served as seats;  she joined a couple together to form a bed and night table, which was her sleeping area.

And if life has taught me anything, it's this:

Emulate Yoko Ono.

Yeah, this definitely isn't a mono vs. stereo, vinyl vs. cd debate. It's gotta be Ipod>Milk Crate every time. Tom's voice just sounds so much richer. Frankly, I don't even know why anyone would even think of listening to the Best Show on a milk crate.

Well you know, it comes down to cost/benefit analysis in the end.  Is it worth the money an ipod costs versus the bare-bones functionality of a milk crate?  Each person has to decide that for themselves.

Milk crates are also much more versatile than iPods.  For that matter, so are orange crates.

Most of my furniture consists of stacked Zunes that I grabbed from outside convenience stores.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I've gotta come down on the side of crates here. Try carrying your oranges or glass milk bottles around in an iPod. You will not get far.
I'm warning you with peace and love.
