On that note, Frankenstein is the most boring book ever written.  I like none of it, not some of it.

I liked Frankenstein a little bit more. You have to approach it as a frame, within a frame, within a frame, within a Humanities class you were railroaded into taking.

Shelly did some things that I really like and are too boring to get into, but I thought it was good book to pick apart. I have a hard part getting over how intentionally histrionic she makes her characters. I have a feeling she wanted the reader to route for the beating that Frankenstien had coming. Just my opinion though. I concede that I had to throw some water on my face while I was reading it..

i disagree, Shelley makes Frankenstein's monster very sympathetic. The hysteric reactions of the characters illustrate the general public's immediate jump to judgement and penchant for hatred of that which is different. i liked all of it, not some of it.

But unlike, say, Madame Bovary, which is deliberately boring to give us a sense of the character, Frankenstein is just Sofa King BORING.  My God.  Please, no more about the English seaside.  Do we really need to hear about the flowers in every valley that Frankenstein sees?

And I was ok with some of the same thing in Moby Dick, because he interspersed it with high action and the whaling talk read somewhat literary.  The Frankenstein stuff just killed me.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I love the whaling chapter.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

There was an edition (I had it in paperback) that came out about 7 or 8 years ago that had new wood cut images with it.  I had it, briefly loved it, destroyed it on tour, and would love it again if I could find another copy (I haven't actually looked all that hard).  Anybody seen this anywhere?

Now write me a receipt so I can tip on outta here...

i agree on this, it seem to be cruising along nicely then before you know it you're smack in the middle of a whale encyclopedia.

You're right. I should have been a little more clear in what I wrote. The monster is the only sympathetic character. The rest are hysterical fodder.

Frankenstein creates this golum that runs off and started picking off everyone that the Dr would have had a Freudian issue with. Modern psychology was just starting to become a fad in Europe, and I'm pretty sure that played into the plot. The Dr lapses into this Victorian-stupor (I wish a doctor would prescribe The Rest Cure. I wish that doctor had a monocle.) until the monster gets close enough to almost energize him into action. He then has to hunt down and destroy the part of himself that's so hostile. But Frankenstein is such a weenus, that I route for the exciting half that's always out of reach.

That's what's so frustrating about books from that era. They thought they were showing off by withholding the action and removing it from the narrative to create "loss". It's an amazing example of duality, but this book could be used as punishment.

Twin Peaks

Absolutely.  Especially the wonky middle of Season 2.

I guess I'm easily bored. When his songs go on so, so, so, so long I start to get sleepy.

PJ Harvey
Can (that song "butterfly" at the beginning of Delay kind of sucks but almost everything else is fantastic)
My cat's shennanigans
episodes of Home Movies
Julie's wierd little-kid voice (I mean, it's kind of entertaining, but only a little bit because it fuels Tom's fire)
