I just watched the whole series over a week on DVD.
Loved the first half - all the separatism stuff and seeking to get independence. The courtroom scene in the first episode. T-Wilks as B-Frank. Loved all that.
Once they got independence, it got a little less interesting for me. All the politicking and rivalries etc sort of dragged.
And the last episode, as Dorv said, was pretty harrowing. I didn't think they could do gnarlier than the leg-cut-off-with-chainsaw, but sho'nuff! I'm glad the breast removal was not shown onscreen too heavily.
Plus I appreciated the direction from Tom Hooper, who's currently shooting
my most anticipated film of 2009.
